{"id":121538,"date":"2021-12-16T06:22:00","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T05:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=121538"},"modified":"2021-12-16T06:22:00","modified_gmt":"2021-12-16T05:22:00","slug":"two-nasarawa-doctors-pregnant-woman-die-of-lassa-fever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/16\/two-nasarawa-doctors-pregnant-woman-die-of-lassa-fever\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Nasarawa doctors, pregnant woman die of Lassa fever"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two doctors and a pregnant woman have died of Lassa fever in Nasarawa State.<\/p>\n<p>According to Channels Television, the Director of Public Health of the state Ministry of Health, Ibrahim Adamu, confirmed their death on Wednesday via a phone conversation.<\/p>\n<p>Adamu said based on activities conducted on the outbreak response, the doctors are suspected to have contracted the disease from a pregnant woman which both of them operated on recently at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The woman died of a bleeding disorder associated with fever, which brings the number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/29\/fg-to-decide-on-hazard-allowance-for-health-workers-next-week-ngige\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lassa fever<\/a> deaths in the state to three.<\/p>\n<p>The two doctors, he stated, fell ill, got diagnosed and died in health facilities in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can confirm the two doctors that have succumbed to the threat of Lassa fever. When they fell ill, they were not in the state, they fell ill outside Nasarawa State, they were admitted for treatment in Abuja, the diagnosis was actually done outside the state and the death also occurred in facilities that are in Abuja not within the state,\u201d Adamu said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever based on the outbreak response activities we have conducted, it appears that they might have been infected from the state where a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/14\/pastor-arraigned-for-allegedly-raping-five-months-pregnant-woman-in-ondo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pregnant woman<\/a> was said to have been operated upon and she died of bleeding disorder connected to fever, so the suspicion right now is that she might have been the source of the infection for those two doctors because they are the two persons that operated upon her.<\/p>\n<p>He added that all contacts of the three victims have been identified and their tests all returned negative but the ministry will continue with surveillance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two doctors and a pregnant woman have died of Lassa fever in Nasarawa State.
