{"id":121586,"date":"2021-12-16T05:54:55","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T04:54:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=121586"},"modified":"2021-12-16T05:54:55","modified_gmt":"2021-12-16T04:54:55","slug":"church-worker-remanded-for-allegedly-defiling-8-year-old-girl-in-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/16\/church-worker-remanded-for-allegedly-defiling-8-year-old-girl-in-abuja\/","title":{"rendered":"Church worker remanded for allegedly defiling 8-year-old girl in Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 34-year-old church worker, Patrick Ekene, has been remanded at an FCT correctional centre for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.<\/p>\n<p>The police charged Ekene, who resides in Kubwa, Abuja, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/15\/41-year-old-man-hospitalised-after-being-raped-by-four-young-men-in-kenya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rape<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Bello Kawu of the FCT High Court in Kubwa, gave the order on Tuesday while delivering ruling on the bail application made by the defence counsel, Tony Eseigbe.<\/p>\n<p>Kawu said that the offence was not ordinarily bailable and adjourned the case until Dec. 16 for hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The defence counsel had earlier made a bail application in favour of his client, urging the court to grant him bail.<\/p>\n<p>The Prosecutor, Gabriel Adeosun had told the court that the defendant had unlawful carnal knowledge of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/19\/two-14-year-old-secondary-school-students-remanded-for-alleged-gang-rape-of-minor-in-rivers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">minor<\/a> in Kubwa, Abuja on Oct.10, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Adeosun said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 31 (1) and punishable under subsection 2 of the Child Right Act LFN 2003.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 34-year-old church worker, Patrick Ekene, has been remanded at an FCT correctional centre for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.
