{"id":12168,"date":"2021-03-23T15:44:07","date_gmt":"2021-03-23T14:44:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=12168"},"modified":"2021-03-23T15:44:07","modified_gmt":"2021-03-23T14:44:07","slug":"jack-dorseys-first-ever-tweet-sells-for-2-9m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/23\/jack-dorseys-first-ever-tweet-sells-for-2-9m\/","title":{"rendered":"Jack Dorsey&#8217;s first ever tweet sells for $2.9m"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Twitter founder Jack Dorsey\u2019s first ever tweet has been sold for the equivalent of $2.9m (\u00a32.1m) to the head of blockchain service CryptoLand and software firm Bridge Oracle Sina Estavi.<\/p>\n<p>Dorsey\u2019s first tweet, which reads, \u201cjust setting up my twttr,\u201d was posted by Dorsey on March 21, 2006.<\/p>\n<p>The tweet was sold as a non-fungible token (NFT) \u2013 a unique digital certificate that states who owns a photo, video or other form of online media.<\/p>\n<p>Dorsey\u2019s tweet was sold via an auction on an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/02\/ffk-to-twitter-ceo-dorsey-banning-trump-was-sadistic-and-showed-your-pathological-hatred-for-him\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online platform<\/a> called Valuables, which is owned by the US-based company Cent.<\/p>\n<p>The Twitter co-founder will receive 95% of the proceeds of the primary sale, while Cent receives 5% according to the platform\u2019s rules.<\/p>\n<p>The post will remain publicly available on Twitter even after it has been auctioned off.<\/p>\n<p>Estavi who bought the tweet compared the purchase to buying a Mona Lisa painting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not just a tweet,\u201d Estavi, said on Twitter on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think years later people will realize the true value of this tweet, like the Mona Lisa painting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Estavi will receive a certificate, digitally signed and verified by Dorsey, as well as the metadata of the original tweet.<\/p>\n<p>The data will include information such as the time the tweet was posted and its text contents.<\/p>\n<p>Dorsey has converted the sale proceeds to Bitcoin \u2013 50.8751669 BTC ($2,778,292.86) \u2013 and donated it to the GiveDirectly Africa fund.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Twitter founder Jack Dorsey\u2019s first ever tweet has been sold for the equivalent of $2.9m (\u00a32.1m) to the head of blockchain service CryptoLand and software firm Bridge Oracle Sina Estavi.
