{"id":121690,"date":"2021-12-16T11:27:23","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T10:27:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=121690"},"modified":"2021-12-16T11:27:23","modified_gmt":"2021-12-16T10:27:23","slug":"recruit-special-forces-to-fight-bandits-tambuwal-tells-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/16\/recruit-special-forces-to-fight-bandits-tambuwal-tells-fg\/","title":{"rendered":"Recruit special forces to fight bandits, Tambuwal tells FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal has called on the federal government to recruit special forces to fight bandits in their enclaves in the forest.<\/p>\n<p>This was stated on Wednesday by Tambuwal when he\u00a0received a delegation of the North-west Governors\u2019 Forum led by Aminu Masari, governor of Katsina.<\/p>\n<p>The delegation was in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/13\/how-14-brave-kidnap-victims-escaped-from-bandits-camp-in-sokoto\/\">Sokoto<\/a> to commiserate with the state over the security challenges \u2014 including the recent attack on a bus which led to killing of 23 travellers.<\/p>\n<p>Tambuwal said the special forces will complement the efforts of security personnel in tackling banditry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBandits have no religious, ideological or ethnicity inclinations; they are notorious criminals terrorising law-abiding citizens,\u2019\u2019 the governor said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recruited persons shall serve as special forces equipped with right skills and modern firearms to confront bandits since the locals know the terrains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the special mission, the recruited persons could be re-engaged as forest guards to prevent new security challenges.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In Sokoto state, we outlawed the self-styled vanguards referred at \u2018Yansakai\u2019 whose activities of extra-judicious killings led to reprisals and escalation of the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor said the situation in the country requires everyone involved in tackling the menace irrespective of political persuasion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll hands must be on deck to check banditry and to support President Buhari at all levels to contain the situation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis situation calls for specialised approach with a holistic support from community groups, religious leaders and other individuals to tackle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On his part, Masari expressed his condolences to Sokoto state on the recent attacks by bandits, noting that measures are being put in place to address the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBandits behave worse than animals in view of the atrocities they perpetrate; people need to protect themselves,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice and other security personnel are inadequate, so we shall not wait for those barbaric bandits to maim and kill people at random.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe shall confront them and deal with them the way they are supposed to be dealt with.
