Obinnna Chidoka (Anambra-PDP) at plenary on Thursday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Moving the motion, Chidoka said that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/25\/gunmen-attack-military-checkpoints-kill-officers-in-rivers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">security checkpoints<\/a> on the Lagos-Onitsha Road were up to 60, causing untold hardship to motorists.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker alleged that the checkpoints had turned into tollgates were motorists were extorted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese multiple checkpoints, couple with the terrible condition of the roads cause unnecessary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/29\/fg-to-divert-traffic-on-lagos-ibadan-expressway-for-six-days\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">traffic<\/a> buildup on the roads with untold hardship to users,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The House thereafter, directed that the checkpoints be removed forthwith to facilitate free flow of traffic to and from the South East.<\/p>\n<p>It equally mandated the Federal Road Safety Corps (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/15\/residents-attack-frsc-officials-attempting-to-rescue-accident-victims-in-anambra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FRSC<\/a>) to deploy men and materials to ensure free traffic flow between Asaba and Onitsha among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Security agencies have been urged to remove multiple checkpoints on highways leading to the South East, ahead of the yuletide.
