{"id":122220,"date":"2021-12-17T13:41:48","date_gmt":"2021-12-17T12:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=122220"},"modified":"2021-12-17T13:41:48","modified_gmt":"2021-12-17T12:41:48","slug":"ugandan-bride-dies-a-week-after-her-wedding-due-to-family-planning-complications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/17\/ugandan-bride-dies-a-week-after-her-wedding-due-to-family-planning-complications\/","title":{"rendered":"Ugandan bride dies a week after her wedding due to family planning complications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A newly wedded bride, who went into coma after a procedure for birth control at Women\u2019s Hospital International and Fertility Clinic Bukoto in Kampala, Uganda, has died.<\/p>\n<p>Kampala Metropolitan Police and Criminal Investigations Directorate officers, confirmed that Joan Namutebi died on Thursday night, December 16.<\/p>\n<p>Namutebi wedded Mr Derrick Wabwire last Friday, December 10 and went for a birth control procedure on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-122231 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/12\/kunlenet07\/2021\/12\/17\/Joan-Namutebi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/12\/kunlenet07\/2021\/12\/17\/Joan-Namutebi.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/12\/kunlenet07\/2021\/12\/17\/Joan-Namutebi-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/12\/kunlenet07\/2021\/12\/17\/Joan-Namutebi-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/12\/kunlenet07\/2021\/12\/17\/Joan-Namutebi-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to investigators, Namutebi fasted for two days consecutively before her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/14\/just-in-court-did-not-nullify-ikoyi-registry-weddings-fg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wedding<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The medical personnel at the hospital checked Namutebi and found that her &#8220;uterus was not in the right position.&#8221; The doctors allegedly advised her to take some water to correct the problem.<\/p>\n<p>She developed pain after the procedure and fainted. Medics later took her to Victoria Hospital where she has been on life support.<\/p>\n<p>The incident led to police intervention and arrest of four workers of Women\u2019s Hospital International and Fertility Clinic on offences of negligence.<\/p>\n<p>Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire said &#8220;the deceased&#8217;s body has been taken to Kampala Capital City Authority mortuary for a post mortem&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-122233 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/12\/kunlenet07\/2021\/12\/17\/Joan-Namutebi-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"888\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/12\/kunlenet07\/2021\/12\/17\/Joan-Namutebi-3.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/12\/kunlenet07\/2021\/12\/17\/Joan-Namutebi-3-243x300.jpg 243w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Criminal Investigations Directorate spokesman Charles Twiine had said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/29\/18-year-old-south-african-girl-arrested-for-murder-of-her-mother-days-after-reporting-her-missing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post mortem<\/a> would guide their investigations once the report is out.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The post mortem and the tests we did will help us know whether there was a crime or not,&#8221; Assistant Superintendent of Police Twiine said.<\/p>\n<p>The health condition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/11\/how-i-paid-bride-price-of-my-70-year-old-wife-35-year-old-man-who-married-white-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bride<\/a> caused stress to the groom and he has been under care of his family members.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, police have released on bond four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/13\/how-i-lost-my-4-year-old-son-to-incompetence-of-health-workers-in-lagos-bereaved-father\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">health workers<\/a> of Women\u2019s Hospital International and Fertility Clinic in Bukoto, Kampala, who were detained over allegations of negligence.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects, who include the hospital administrator, doctor, nurse and laboratory technician, were in detention at Kira Road Police Station since Monday but have been released.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-122234 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/12\/kunlenet07\/2021\/12\/17\/Joan-Namutebi-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/12\/kunlenet07\/2021\/12\/17\/Joan-Namutebi-4.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/12\/kunlenet07\/2021\/12\/17\/Joan-Namutebi-4-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Women\u2019s Hospital International and Fertility Clinic spokesperson, Mr Arthur Matsiko, confirmed the release of the health workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have been released on police bond,\u201d Mr Matsiko said.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital says it is not sure of what really caused the health complication, however, Matsiko said they are cooperating with the police in the investigations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We don\u2019t know the angle the case is going to take. We haven\u2019t received any results from the police.
