{"id":123548,"date":"2021-12-21T18:23:04","date_gmt":"2021-12-21T17:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=123548"},"modified":"2021-12-21T18:23:04","modified_gmt":"2021-12-21T17:23:04","slug":"sylvester-oromoni-alleged-bullies-of-dowen-college-student-granted-n1m-bail-each","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/21\/sylvester-oromoni-alleged-bullies-of-dowen-college-student-granted-n1m-bail-each\/","title":{"rendered":"Sylvester Oromoni: Alleged bullies of Dowen College student granted N1m bail each"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five Dowen College students, charged with the alleged murder of their 12-year-old schoolmate, Sylvester Oromoni, granted bail in the sum of N1m each.<\/p>\n<p>The police charged the boys, who are minors, with conspiracy and homicide.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the deceased\u2019s cousin, Perry Oromoni, has taken to social media to alleged that some senior pupils of the college <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/gist\/2021\/12\/01\/12-year-old-boy-allegedly-beaten-to-death-by-fellow-students-for-refusing-to-join-cult-in-lagos-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beat him up in his hostel room for refusing to join a cult<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the school denied the claim, stating that the boy complained of pain in his legs and hip following an injury he sustained while playing football.<\/p>\n<p>The Lagos State Government had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/03\/lagos-govt-shuts-down-dowen-college-indefinitely\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shut down the school<\/a>\u00a0indefinitely to ensure thorough investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief magistrate, Olatunbosun Adeola of the Yaba Chief Magistrates\u2019 court, after hearing the bail application from the defendants\u2019 counsel, ordered the defendants to produce two sureties each in like sum.<\/p>\n<p>Adeola said one of each of the defendants\u2019 sureties must be their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/04\/oromoni-parents-of-dowen-college-student-cultists-planning-to-fly-them-abroad-sylvesters-father\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parent<\/a> and must swear an affidavit of compliance.<\/p>\n<p>She also held that the international passports of all the defendants must be submitted to the court, adding that their residence must be verified by the prosecutor and they must stay within 2km of their residence at all times.<\/p>\n<p>Defence counsel, Ifeoma Eson, Mr A.E. Amah, Mr Godwin Omoaka (SAN), Mr Eze Ajibo represented Begue and Mr Micheal Ayinla were in court for the minors.<\/p>\n<p>According to News Agency of Nigeria, wthe defendants were on Dec. 9 remanded in a juvenile home over the death of their schoolmate who was allegedly attacked in a case of bullying while in school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five Dowen College students, charged with the alleged murder of their 12-year-old schoolmate, Sylvester Oromoni, granted bail in the sum of N1m each.
