The National Association of Nigerian Students has called on the Federal Government to repatriate a Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, from the Benin Republic where he is being detained.<\/p>\n

The demand was made on Thursday by the students union via a statement released in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.<\/p>\n

Igboho has been incarcerated by the Benin authority for allegedly entering the country illegally since he fled Nigeria to evade arrest by the Department of State Service some months ago.<\/p>\n

Igboho is currently being tried by the Beninoise<\/a> authority.<\/p>\n

NANS argued that Igboho being held in \u201cBenin Republic is no longer justifiable\u201d.<\/p>\n

The NAN South-West Zone D coordinator, Adegboye Olatunji, said the Benin Republic is only acting a script that was scripted by Nigeria\u2019s government.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cThe actions, inactions and body language of the Federal Government suggest their culpability or at least their approval concerning the treatment being meted to the self-styled activist.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt remains within the responsibility of the Federal Government to protect the interest and rights of her citizens within and outside the borders of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe activities of the Federal Government, however, communicate nonchalance and unwillingness that suggest that the Benin Republic is only acting a script that was scripted by Nigeria government.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to affirm that the continued detention of Sunday Adeyemo is no longer justifiable neither is it rational.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, the government should explore every diplomatic option in ensuring his repatriation. As the international community keeps observing the ineptness of the Nigeria Liason Office which has been largely inactive over this issue, we are beginning to suspect that their lackadaisical stance is as directed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must warn the government of Benin Republic that Nigerians are now disenchanted by their manner of handling this case.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe advise them to avoid being used as a tool for settling political grievances and to immediately begin and complete the extradition process of Sunday Igboho within a reasonable time frame or we will be forced to make Nigeria unlivable for Beninoise in Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
