{"id":1300,"date":"2021-02-24T06:37:05","date_gmt":"2021-02-24T05:37:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=1300"},"modified":"2021-02-24T07:18:13","modified_gmt":"2021-02-24T06:18:13","slug":"frsc-to-impound-rickety-vehicles-arrest-drivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/24\/frsc-to-impound-rickety-vehicles-arrest-drivers\/","title":{"rendered":"FRSC to impound rickety vehicles, arrest drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been directed to impound rickety vehicles plying Nigerian roads.<\/p>\n<p>This directive given by the FRSC corps marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the corps public education officer, Bisi Kazeem<\/p>\n<p>The corps marshal said the clampdown is an integral part of efforts to further reduce road <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/21\/fg-lifts-ban-on-boeing-737-max\/\">accidents<\/a> in the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kazeem, the zonal commanding officers and sector commanders have been given an express directive to commence a nationwide arrest, impoundment, and prosecution of owners or operators of such vehicles.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>He said the operation, which will be implemented nationwide, forms part of the corps\u2019 commitment towards enhancing its operational activities and creating a safer motoring environment.<\/p>\n<p>The corps marshal said the development is premised on the realisation of FRSC\u2019s 2021 strategic goals of reducing road traffic crashes by 15 percent and fatalities by 20 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Oyeyemi said motorable vehicles are important to the health, safety and economic benefits of drivers and commuters across Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He urged motorists to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles in view of inherent traffic hazards associated with broken down vehicles, especially at night.<\/p>\n<p>He warned that severe punishment awaits anyone apprehended, including impoundment of the vehicle, payment of fines, and compulsory road safety education.<\/p>\n<p>The FRSC boss also urged the public to assist the corps by reporting any rickety vehicle sighted on the road through the FRSC toll-free numbers 122 or tune into the national traffic radio 107.1FM.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been directed to impound rickety vehicles plying Nigerian roads.
