{"id":130731,"date":"2022-01-06T18:40:38","date_gmt":"2022-01-06T17:40:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=130731"},"modified":"2022-01-06T18:40:38","modified_gmt":"2022-01-06T17:40:38","slug":"kenyan-police-officer-commits-suicide-over-alleged-delay-in-payment-of-december-salary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/06\/kenyan-police-officer-commits-suicide-over-alleged-delay-in-payment-of-december-salary\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenyan police officer commits suicide over alleged delay in payment of December salary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Kenyan police officer, Abel Kemboi, has reportedly committed suicide over an alleged salary delay in Koromotangi village in Kakamega County .<\/p>\n<p>Kemboi was found dead on Wednesday, January 5, after complaining to friends and relatives that his December salary had been delayed.<\/p>\n<p>Before committing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/27\/zambian-man-commits-suicide-after-beating-his-wife-to-death-on-christmas-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suicide<\/a>, Kemboi reportedly said he would take up the salary issue with his bosses at Kakamega Police Station and even requested his cousin identified as Zacheaus Kalama to accompany him.<\/p>\n<p>When Kalama woke up the following morning and headed to Kemboi\u2019s home, he found the door locked from inside. Upon getting no response, he broke into the house and saw that Kemboi had hanged himself. He noted that his late cousin had show signs of being depressed earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Kalama said; \u201cWe had agreed to go to the station to inquire the cause of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/08\/we-are-suffering-hungry-policemen-cry-out-demand-november-salary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">salary delay<\/a> from his bosses but it was shocking that he took his own life even before we achieved our mission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had hanged himself and I did not believe what I saw.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The deceased&#8217;s immediate boss and Kakamega Central OCPD David Kabena also confirmed that he was always depressed.<\/p>\n<p>Kabena said that they had already launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/06\/university-student-on-the-run-after-killing-lover-littering-body-parts-in-different-areas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigations<\/a> to ascertain the exact cause of his death.
