{"id":13098,"date":"2021-03-25T12:45:58","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T11:45:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=13098"},"modified":"2021-03-25T12:45:58","modified_gmt":"2021-03-25T11:45:58","slug":"fg-to-states-do-not-ignore-flood-alerts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/25\/fg-to-states-do-not-ignore-flood-alerts\/","title":{"rendered":"FG to states: Do not ignore flood alerts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency has warned states and other stakeholders in the building and environment sectors not to ignore flood alerts.<\/p>\n<p>This warning was given on Wednesday, March 24 by the\u00a0Director-General of the agency, Clement Nze.<\/p>\n<p>The DG of NHSA also informed states\u00a0to play their roles well to mitigate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/21\/fayemi-orders-relocation-of-school-from-river-bank\/\">flooding<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n<p>Nze disclosed that 317 local governments in 36 states and the FCT were affected by flood last year.<\/p>\n<p>He added that large areas of farms were destroyed in Kebbi, Jigawa, Kano among others.<\/p>\n<p>Recounting how\u00a0previous attempts to get the state government along in its flood forecast efforts had not yielded the desire results, Nze\u00a0urged the state and local governments to\u00a0among other things, begin the clearing of drainages and canals as well as encourage people living along the water-ways to relocate to safer areas before the rains start fully.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency has warned states and other stakeholders in the building and environment sectors not to ignore flood alerts.
