{"id":131112,"date":"2022-01-07T12:29:05","date_gmt":"2022-01-07T11:29:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=131112"},"modified":"2022-01-07T12:29:05","modified_gmt":"2022-01-07T11:29:05","slug":"it-was-2500-mw-under-jonathan-garba-shehu-says-power-generation-now-13000-mw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/07\/it-was-2500-mw-under-jonathan-garba-shehu-says-power-generation-now-13000-mw\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;It was 2500 MW under Jonathan&#8217; &#8211; Garba Shehu says power generation now 13,000 MW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu has stated that the Buhari administration has greatly improved power generation in the country.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">He said though the administration has been constrained by \u201csituations on ground\u201d, the government has been able to generate more than 13,000 megawatts of power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed on Friday by Shehu in an<span class=\"acssf62a8\"> interview on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">He added that the government has also doubled power availability in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">He said the government inherited a reckless privatisation of the power sector, done by the Goodluck Jonathan administration, but that it has been able to up its uptake by 5,000 megawatts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">In 2013, the power sector was privatised as the electricity distribution and generation sub-sectors were sold to core <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/01\/ngx-stock-market-investors-gained-n1-24-trillion-in-2021\/\">investors<\/a>, while the federal government held the transmission sub-sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cThe situation on ground constrained the government and the party from delivering as much more than what we have. As we speak today we have doubled power availability in the country,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cIn terms of generation, it has improved 200 times. We have the capacity to generate more than 13,000 of power. The uptake is up to 5,000 as we speak now. That is not the best but it\u2019s an improvement on the 2,500 megawatts that we inherited.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cWe aspire to do 20,000 or 30,000 megawatts of power, we haven\u2019t done that but we have launched 19,000 availability. It\u2019s remarkable, why don\u2019t we look inwards and use out the 13,000 that are available.
