{"id":131388,"date":"2022-01-08T05:01:33","date_gmt":"2022-01-08T04:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=131388"},"modified":"2022-01-08T05:01:33","modified_gmt":"2022-01-08T04:01:33","slug":"how-zamfara-terrorists-invaded-our-villages-killed-over-200-burnt-houses-survivors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/08\/how-zamfara-terrorists-invaded-our-villages-killed-over-200-burnt-houses-survivors\/","title":{"rendered":"How Zamfara terrorists invaded our villages, killed over 200, burnt houses \u2013 Survivors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Survivors of Tuesday\u2019s terrorists\u2019 attack on four villages in Anka and Bukkuyum local government areas of Zamfara State have recounted their ordeal.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that the bandits, who were fleeing as a result of ongoing military operations invaded Rafin Danya, Barayar Zaki, Rafin Gero and Kurfa villages, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/07\/bloodbath-in-zamfara-villages-as-bandits-kill-200-scores-missing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">killing over 200 people<\/a> in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Some survivors of the attacks said terrorists killed over 200 villagers and set many houses ablaze, forcing scores of villagers, who managed to escape, to flee and remain missing.<\/p>\n<p>According to PUNCH, a survivor, who gave his name as Mohammed Kurfa, said trouble started when vigilantes in the villages tried to confront the terrorists, who have been designated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/05\/just-in-federal-govt-declares-bandits-as-terrorists-issues-gazette\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">terrorists<\/a> who were fleeing Zamfara State with cattle numbering not less than 3,000.<\/p>\n<p>Kurfa said the vigilantes engaged the terrorists in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/14\/police-engage-bandits-in-gun-battle-kill-two-in-kaduna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gun battle<\/a>, leading to the invasion.<\/p>\n<p>Another survivor and resident of Bukkuyum, Abubakar Ahmed, who spoke to The Associated Press, said the attack, which started on Tuesday went on till Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Corroborating Ahmed, another survivor and resident of Anka Aliyu Anka, stated, \u201cThey killed people from 20 years and above.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome have been buried, some were burnt and we are still looking for bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But another survivor, Mallam Mohammed Sani, said that the terrorists were still around and refused to allow families of the affected people to bury their dead, PUNCH reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made several attempts to evacuate the dead bodies for burial but due to the presence of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/05\/troops-kill-two-bandits-in-kaduna-lga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bandits<\/a> who have invaded the areas, we could not go,\u201d Said Sani.<\/p>\n<p>Sani lamented that there were no presence of security operatives in the affected villages, making the villagers to continue to flee their homes.<\/p>\n<p>The State Commissioner of Police Commissioner, Ayuba Elkana, said he was compiling the number of those who were killed during the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the inability of the villagers to evacuate and bury their dead, Elkana said it was dangerous to go to those areas due to heavy presence of the terrorists who he confirmed were in large numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody will risk his life to go to those areas because the bandits are there in large numbers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the Commissioner for Information, Zamfara State, Ibrahim Dosara, told AP that government was awaiting more information about the incident, including the number of casualties.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that a military aircraft had been deployed along with security forces as a manhunt for the attackers continued.<\/p>\n<p>Dosara, however, blamed informants for the persistent attacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the serious problems is that we have a lot of informants getting information to these people (the terrorists.
