{"id":131394,"date":"2022-01-08T05:12:50","date_gmt":"2022-01-08T04:12:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=131394"},"modified":"2022-01-08T05:12:50","modified_gmt":"2022-01-08T04:12:50","slug":"zambian-woman-jailed-for-hitting-her-8-year-old-sons-genitals-with-iron-rod-over-piece-of-chicken","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/08\/zambian-woman-jailed-for-hitting-her-8-year-old-sons-genitals-with-iron-rod-over-piece-of-chicken\/","title":{"rendered":"Zambian woman jailed for hitting her 8-year-old son&#8217;s genitals with iron rod over piece of chicken"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 33-old woman, Jessy Banda, has been jailed for assaulting her 8-year-old biological son over a piece of chicken at Misisi Township in Lusaka, Zambia.<\/p>\n<p>Lusaka magistrate Trevor Kasanda sentenced Banda to five years imprisonment on Friday, January 7, upon her own admission of guilt.<\/p>\n<p>Banda was charged with one count of assault on a child after she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/31\/caregivers-allegedly-brutalized-young-maid-over-witchcraft-accusation-in-anambra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brutalized<\/a> her son on December 26, 2021 by hitting him on his genitals with an iron bar.<\/p>\n<p>She admitted the charge and explained to court how she used an iron bar to hit her son on his private parts after he stole a piece of chicken. She said she had no authority to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/07\/ex-councillor-ordered-to-pay-woman-n4m-for-assaulting-forcing-her-to-walk-naked-in-akwa-ibom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">assault<\/a> the child.<\/p>\n<p>According to the facts of the case, prosecutor Muleya Simuusa said Banda a day after Christmas used a sharp object to hit the boy and he sustained a deep wound on his spectrum.<\/p>\n<p>Simuusa said as the boy was crying, a good Samaritan came to his help and rushed him to hospital where he was attended to and a medical report was issued.<\/p>\n<p>He said a police officer from Kabwata Police Station only identified as detective inspector Munalula took up the matter and apprehended Banda who was at the time on the run.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor said Banda voluntarily and freely admitted the charge and the court convicted her upon her confirmation that the facts of the were true and correct.<\/p>\n<p>Banda asked for leniency, saying she did not know that she would injure her own child to that extent.<\/p>\n<p>She pleaded for mercy adding that her other children would suffer if sent to prison.
