{"id":131920,"date":"2022-01-09T13:20:23","date_gmt":"2022-01-09T12:20:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=131920"},"modified":"2022-01-09T13:39:46","modified_gmt":"2022-01-09T12:39:46","slug":"frsc-413-killed-2157-injured-in-2021-crashes-in-bauchi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/09\/frsc-413-killed-2157-injured-in-2021-crashes-in-bauchi\/","title":{"rendered":"FRSC: 413 killed, 2,157 injured in 2021 crashes in Bauchi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Road Safety Corps has disclosed that atleast 413 people were killed in 480 different crashes that occurred across Bauchi State from January to December, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement released on Sunday by the Sector Commander, FRSC Bauchi State, Yusuf Abdullahi.<\/p>\n<p>In the statement entitled, \u2018The annual RTC Report in 4,000km road network in Bauchi State,\u2019 he said that 2,157 people sustained varying degrees of injuries involving 3,586 people within the period.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, most of the crashes were caused by speed violation and reckless driving, pointing out that these remain a source of concern to the FRSC in the state.<\/p>\n<p>He assured that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/27\/106256-persons-involved-in-road-traffic-crashes-in-three-years-frsc\/\">FRSC<\/a> was doing all within its powers to reduce these road traffic crashes to the barest minimum through aggressive public enlightenment and enforcement of the use of Speed Limiting Device and other measures.<\/p>\n<p>Abdullahi said, \u201cFrom January to December, 2021, Bauchi State recorded a total of 480 road traffic crashes in the 4,000kms road network in the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are made up of 162 fatal crashes and 307 serious crashes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA total of 3,586 people were involved. No fewer than 413 people were killed in these crashes while 2,157 others sustained various degrees of injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cThe common causes of these crashes which we identified are speed violation, reckless driving and wrongful overtaking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe time of most of these road traffic crashes is evening and night. Also, 80 percent of these crashes involve commercial vehicles passing through the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpeed violation and wrongful overtaking are the major causes of the RTC. Speeding remains the number one source of worry for the corps personnel in road safety management.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe corps would do its best to ensure that RTC resulting from speeding is reduced to the barest minimum in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe corps would continue to monitor road usage to guard against dangerous driving, among other causes of RTC.
