Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has praised the Super Eagles for defeating Egypt in their group D Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener.<\/p>\n

Recall that Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal as\u00a0Augustine Eguavoen-led team dominated the Pharaohs of Egypt on Tuesday at the Roumd\u00e9 Adjia stadium in Cameroon.<\/p>\n

In a statement by Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, Buhari also urged the Eagles to remain focused and make Nigerians<\/a> proud.<\/p>\n

The president assured the team of his \u201cunflinching support\u201d as they continue to soar at the African football showpiece.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Muhammadu Buhari commends the Super Eagles of Nigeria for an impressive start at the ongoing 33rd Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon, defeating a formidable opponent, Egypt 1-0, in their group stage encounter,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President strongly believes, like millions of football-loving Nigerians, that the spectacular outing in Garoua, Cameroon is a foretaste of what to expect from the dedicated team as they square up against other opponents in the tournament.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President urges the Augustine Eguavoen-led team and the coaching staff to keep their eyes on the ball, remain good ambassadors on and off the field, and give loyal fans and all Nigerians more exciting moments to celebrate.<\/p>\n
