{"id":135933,"date":"2022-01-17T22:10:15","date_gmt":"2022-01-17T21:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=135933"},"modified":"2022-01-17T22:10:15","modified_gmt":"2022-01-17T21:10:15","slug":"nnamdi-kanus-lawyer-reacts-as-fg-files-new-terrorism-charges-against-ipob-leader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/17\/nnamdi-kanus-lawyer-reacts-as-fg-files-new-terrorism-charges-against-ipob-leader\/","title":{"rendered":"Nnamdi Kanu\u2019s lawyer reacts as FG files new terrorism charges against IPOB leader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has reacted to the fresh charge against the Biafra agitator.<\/p>\n<p>Ejimakor said the fresh charge against Kanu was an exercise in futility.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with newsmen, the counsel described the charge filed at the eve of Kanu\u2019s resumed trial as a \u201cdilatory tactics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government had filed a fresh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/30\/biafra-ipob-not-defending-christians-out-to-promote-terrorism-loot-buhari\/\">terrorism<\/a> charge against Kanu, ahead of his resumed trial on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>In the amended process it filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, the federal government increased the counts in the initial charge it preferred against Kanu.<\/p>\n<p>The IPOB leader was facing a seven-count treasonable felony charge before Justice Binta Nyako-led Federal High Court.<\/p>\n<p>He will now enter his fresh plea to a 15-count amended charge marked FHC\/ABJ\/CR\/383\/2015, and signed by the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, M. B. Abubakar.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting, Ejimakor said: \u201cThe latest amendment coming so late on the eve of the trial smacks of dilatory tactics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBetter yet, it is an exercise in futility, because it cannot overcome the vested jurisdictional defects springing from the extraordinary rendition of Nnamdi Kanu.
