{"id":13619,"date":"2021-03-26T12:56:27","date_gmt":"2021-03-26T11:56:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=13619"},"modified":"2021-03-26T12:56:27","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T11:56:27","slug":"we-are-embarrassed-by-mass-abductions-presidency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/26\/we-are-embarrassed-by-mass-abductions-presidency\/","title":{"rendered":"We are embarrassed by mass abductions \u2013 Presidency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Presidency has confirmed it is embarrassed by the mass abductions of citizens that has become a trend in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, stated this on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/02\/bandits-likely-abduct-pupils-to-embarrass-government-says-nigerias-minister\/\">frequent abduction of students embarrasses<\/a> President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.<\/p>\n<p>He spoke during an interview on Channels Television\u2019s Sunrise Daily.<\/p>\n<p>Shehu was speaking against the backdrop of kidnappings and mass abduction in schools especially in the North.<\/p>\n<p>He affirmed the President is quite conversant with daily events in the country adding \u201cthe fastest way to reach President Buhari is to reach the press and reveal the wrong doing that\u2019s happening\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Shehu noted that Buhari is passionate about the unity of Nigeria as well as tackling the myriads of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/26\/zamfara-abduction-police-provides-update-on-number-of-kidnapped-students\/\">security challenges<\/a> in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He further stressed that Nigerians enjoy the freedom of speech under President Buhari\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis President is focused on securing this country, he is focused on the unity of this country and he will preserve it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople should be free to say whatever because this country is under the best democratic government that we have had since the fourth republic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shehu also reaffirmed President Buhari\u2019s order to the security agencies to shoot at sight anyone caught in the illegal possession of firearms, notably the AK-47 rifles.<\/p>\n<p>On terrorism, he lamented some media practitioners carry out reports that seem to glamorise crime by making some Boko Haram terrorists look like heroes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have the most vibrant media community on the continent and we expect robustness or criticism from them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the elements, I am careful to say some of the elements in our media that glamorise crime that will make Boko Haram look like heroes.
