The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday dumped the direct mode of primary elections.<\/p>\n

The Senate\u2019s stand followed an amendment by the conference committee which recommended that \u201cthe direct primary mode of election be expunged.\u201d<\/p>\n

The direct primary has been replaced with three options, including direct, indirect<\/a> and consensus in clause 85 of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, 2021.<\/p>\n

In another news, former military head of state, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has disclosed that former military ruler, Sani Abacha deceived prominent Nigerians<\/strong><\/a> to get to power.<\/p>\n

Recall that a national protest took place following the annulment of the election which forced Babangida to step aside and hand over power to Ernest Shonekan on August 27, 1993, as the head of an interim national government.<\/p>\n
