{"id":136865,"date":"2022-01-19T14:59:00","date_gmt":"2022-01-19T13:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=136865"},"modified":"2022-01-19T14:59:23","modified_gmt":"2022-01-19T13:59:23","slug":"i-challenge-anyone-to-prove-i-failed-to-remit-funds-as-npa-md-hadiza-bala-usman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/19\/i-challenge-anyone-to-prove-i-failed-to-remit-funds-as-npa-md-hadiza-bala-usman\/","title":{"rendered":"I challenge anyone to prove I failed to remit funds as NPA MD &#8211; Hadiza Bala Usman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman has confronted anyone with evidence that she failed to remit funds into the federal government purse to present it to the public.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Bala Usman.<\/p>\n<p>According to Hadiza,<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0the statement became necessary to counter reports suggesting that the NPA failed to remit funds on her watch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cMedia reports alleging that the Auditor-General of the Federation have issued some queries regarding monies being owed the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), by Terminal Operators have come to my attention,\u201d the statement reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cOrdinarily, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/11\/oau-lecturers-threaten-strike-over-unpaid-earned-allowances\/\">NPA<\/a> should clear the air about these allegations, and for this reason, I have refused to make any comments since the news broke.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cHowever, it is becoming more apparent that tarnishing my image is the primary mission of promoters of the story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cOn Tuesday morning, for instance, several people sent me a social media post with the title: \u2018NPA Audit indicts Hadiza Bala Usman for not remitting N40b, $921.61m and \u00a3289.931.82 to federal government accounts.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cI make bold to say that this report is untrue and a fallacy from the imagination of anyone spreading the falsehood. I also challenge anyone with proofs of this allegation to present them in public.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Usman added that funds unremitted into the federal government\u2019s accounts remain in the treasury single account (TSA).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe truth is that even if there are monies unremitted into the federal government\u2019s accounts, these monies will remain in the Treasury Single Account (TSA) where all revenues generated by the Authority domicile,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cI also challenge anyone with proofs of this allegation to present them in public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cIn addition, the Authority will have explanations for any audit queries that may arise, whenever they do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In May 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari approved her suspension as the<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0managing director of the NPA following a recommendation by Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, to set up an administrative panel of inquiry to investigate the management of the NPA.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman has confronted anyone with evidence that she failed to remit funds into the federal government purse to present it to the public.
