{"id":142070,"date":"2022-01-31T10:22:03","date_gmt":"2022-01-31T09:22:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=142070"},"modified":"2022-01-31T13:44:39","modified_gmt":"2022-01-31T12:44:39","slug":"how-to-report-your-bank-when-displeased-cbn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/31\/how-to-report-your-bank-when-displeased-cbn\/","title":{"rendered":"How to report your bank when displeased \u2013 CBN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Bank of Nigeria has released a guide for bank customers and others on how and where they can lodge complaints against financial institutions regulated by it.<\/p>\n<p>The financial institutions include commercial banks, microfinance banks, primary mortgage institutions, and discount houses.<\/p>\n<p>The CBN noted that it had earlier issued a circular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/29\/how-abba-kyari-allegedly-used-someones-account-to-collect-money-from-hushpuppi\/\">directing<\/a> all banks to expand their existing ATM help desks to handle all types of consumer complaints.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, if you have a complaint against your bank, you must first report the complaint at the bank\/branch where the issue originated and then allow two weeks (it might be less or more in some cases) for the issues to be resolved,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the apex bank, the customer has the right to escalate the complaint to the Director, Consumer Protection Department of the CBN after lodging a complaint, when the bank fails to acknowledge within three days or issue a tracking number, or fails to resolve the complaint within the timelines as stipulated by the Consumer Protection Regulation.<\/p>\n<p>The CBN said, \u201cYou can only direct your complaints to CPD upon the failure of your bank\/financial institution to resolve your complaint within the timeline stipulated by the Consumer Protection Regulation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can contact the CPD through the following channels: Consumer Protection Department, Garki, Abuja. Your letter of complaint should be addressed to the Director, Consumer Protection Department.
