{"id":142222,"date":"2022-01-31T14:21:35","date_gmt":"2022-01-31T13:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=142222"},"modified":"2022-01-31T14:41:17","modified_gmt":"2022-01-31T13:41:17","slug":"nimc-reactivates-sowores-nin-after-lawsuit-threat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/31\/nimc-reactivates-sowores-nin-after-lawsuit-threat\/","title":{"rendered":"NIMC reactivates Sowore\u2019s NIN after lawsuit threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reactivated the national identity number (NIN) of Omoyele Sowore, an activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that\u00a0Sowore had on January 12, raised concerns over the deactivation of his NIN, permanent voter card, passport and driver\u2019s licence.<\/p>\n<p>The activist through his lawyer, Tope Temokun had\u00a0threatened to sue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/11\/nimc-speaks-on-servers-being-hacked-identities-of-over-3-million-nigerians-compromised\/\">NIMC<\/a> and its director-general.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTAKE NOTICE that if after the expiration of SEVEN DAYS, inclusive of the date of service of this letter on you, our client\u2019s National Identity Number (NIN) is not reactivated, we have the full instruction of our client to approach the appropriate court with jurisdiction to seek this redress and this shall be without further recourse to you,\u201d the January 14, 2022 letter read in part.<\/p>\n<p>However, on Monday, Sowore in a tweet confirmed that his NIN has been reactivated by the commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHappy to report that after a 7-day ultimatum given to the lawless Muhammadu Buhari regime I\u2019ve been informed that my national Identity cards have been reactivated!
