{"id":142462,"date":"2022-02-01T03:56:39","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T02:56:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=142462"},"modified":"2022-02-01T09:18:01","modified_gmt":"2022-02-01T08:18:01","slug":"female-human-trafficker-arrested-3-victims-of-forced-prostitution-rescued-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/01\/female-human-trafficker-arrested-3-victims-of-forced-prostitution-rescued-in-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Female human trafficker arrested, 3 victims of forced prostitution rescued in India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A notorious foreign-based alleged human trafficker, Joy Shandy Okah, has been arrested by operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the New Delhi Police in a deliberate operation targeting big-time traffickers outside Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The successful operation also led to the rescue of three Nigerian victims of forced prostitution (names withheld) in New Delhi, India.<\/p>\n<p>Head, Press and Public Relations Unit, Stella Nezan, who made this known in a statement on Monday January 31, recalled that the Director-General, Dr Fatima Waziri \u2013 Azi, on the assumption of duties, had vowed to ensure that high profile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/18\/photos-libyan-army-raids-human-traffickers-dens-rescues-african-migrants-kidnapped-tortured-for-ransom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">human traffickers<\/a> across the World were identified, arrested, prosecuted and the proceed of their ill-gotten wealth confiscated and forfeited as restitution to victims of trafficking.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-142463 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/02\/kunlenet07\/2022\/02\/01\/Joy-Shandy-Okah-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"1271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/02\/kunlenet07\/2022\/02\/01\/Joy-Shandy-Okah-3.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/02\/kunlenet07\/2022\/02\/01\/Joy-Shandy-Okah-3-189x300.jpg 189w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/02\/kunlenet07\/2022\/02\/01\/Joy-Shandy-Okah-3-645x1024.jpg 645w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/02\/kunlenet07\/2022\/02\/01\/Joy-Shandy-Okah-3-768x1220.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Explaining how the operation was coordinated, the Head of the International and Intelligence Cooperation Unit of NAPTIP, Mrs Angela Agbayekhai, said the prompt directive and support from the Director-General greatly accounted for the success of the operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn 12th December 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/22\/naptip-reunites-5-year-old-with-parents-3-years-after-she-was-abducted-from-gombe-and-sold-in-anambra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NAPTIP<\/a> received an SOS via email from a Nigerian Minor-17 years old (names withheld) who was deceitfully trafficked from Nigeria for forced prostitution in India. She requested the intervention of the NAPTIP for her rescue and that of other Nigerian victims held captive and forced into the sex trade by one Joy Shandy Okah, a Nigerian based in India.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;NAPTIP networked with the Indian based NGO Vihaan-WMS through intelligence sharing, which resulted in the rescue of the three victims and arrest of their trafficker on at New Krishna Park near Well Pharmacy Vikaspuri, New Delhi \u2013 India.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The victims were recruited from Edo, Delta and Rivers States, Nigeria and trafficked to India for sexual exploitation by Joy Shandy Okah \u2018F\u2019, and her accomplices. One of the victims travelled from Nigeria on 17th September 2021, while the other two arrived in India from Nigeria on 14th December 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The victims were subjected to oath rituals in Nigeria before their eventual travel. The victims travelled with questionable Passports and Student Visas. They were eventually held captive in New Delhi by their trafficker, Joy Shandy Okah, who sponsored their trip to India.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-142465 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/02\/kunlenet07\/2022\/02\/01\/Joy-Shandy-Okah.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/02\/kunlenet07\/2022\/02\/01\/Joy-Shandy-Okah.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/02\/kunlenet07\/2022\/02\/01\/Joy-Shandy-Okah-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/02\/kunlenet07\/2022\/02\/01\/Joy-Shandy-Okah-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/02\/kunlenet07\/2022\/02\/01\/Joy-Shandy-Okah-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/02\/kunlenet07\/2022\/02\/01\/Joy-Shandy-Okah-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Their phones and travel documents were seized and they were forced into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/27\/female-trafficker-remanded-over-sending-ladies-abroad-for-prostitution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prostitution<\/a> to pay up a debt of N4.5 Million naira each until their rescue on 6th January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Joy Shandy is currently facing trial in an Indian Court since 7th January 2022 after her arrest and the victims who are currently in a safe house linked to Vihaan-WMS and assisting the authorities in this regard\u201d, the Head of the Intelligence Unit of NAPTIP said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the development, Director General of NAPTIP, Dr Fatima Waziri-Azi, stated; \u201cI have directed that all persons linked with the recruitment, harbouring, trafficking and sexual exploitation of the three victims who are based in Nigeria, be identified, arrested and prosecuted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We shall take the appropriate legal step to ensure that such proceeds of crime are forfeited and use to assuage the pain inflicted on the victims.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A notorious foreign-based alleged human trafficker, Joy Shandy Okah, has been arrested by operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the New Delhi Police in a deliberate operation targeting big-time traffickers outside Nigeria.
