{"id":142784,"date":"2022-02-01T14:01:42","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T13:01:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=142784"},"modified":"2022-02-01T14:01:42","modified_gmt":"2022-02-01T13:01:42","slug":"court-docks-driver-for-allegedly-damaging-n1-9m-vehicle-engine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/01\/court-docks-driver-for-allegedly-damaging-n1-9m-vehicle-engine\/","title":{"rendered":"Court docks driver for allegedly damaging N1.9m vehicle engine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Ikeja Magistrates&#8217; Court has docked a 37-year-old driver identified as Emmanuel Okolie for damaging a bus engine valued at N1.9 million.<\/p>\n<p>Okolie, a resident of College Road, Ogba, Lagos State, is being tried for damage and stealing.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution counsel identified as ASP Clifford Ogu told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on Dec. 20, 2021, on Ijaiye Road, Lagos State.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the defendant maliciously damaged a Toyota Hiace commercial bus engine, valued at N1.9 million, property of Godstand Transport and Logistics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant willfully damaged the bus by pouring salt inside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/29\/apple-gives-engineers-180000-christmas-bonus-to-prevent-them-from-defecting-to-facebook-and-other-rivals\/\">engine<\/a>, which caused an engine knock.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ogu noted that the defendant also stole the complainant\u2019s N80,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant, who was sent to drop passengers in Owerri, refused to remit the money for that day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe case was reported, leading to the arrest of the defendant,\u201d the prosecutor said.<\/p>\n<p>Ogu added that the\u00a0alleged offences contravene Sections 287(7) and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>According to the NAN report,\u00a0Section 287(7) prescribes seven years\u2019 jail term for stealing from an employer while Section 350 attracts two years for damage.<\/p>\n<p>Following his not guilty plea, the Magistrate, Mrs S. K.
