She posed as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/23\/ill-release-bayelsa-commissioner-when-police-free-my-father-kidnapper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kidnapper<\/a> in the messages and demanded a ransom of \u00a32,000 in exchange for her own safe return.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, the bizarre plot failed when they reported kidnap to the police and she was forced to admit her lies.<\/p>\n<p>She confessed to the police that she made up the kidnap story because she wanted the money to buy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/29\/apple-gives-engineers-180000-christmas-bonus-to-prevent-them-from-defecting-to-facebook-and-other-rivals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christmas<\/a> presents for her family.<\/p>\n<p>Jumeaux appeared before Blackpool Magistrates&#8217; Court in September charged with blackmail and fraud by false representation. She was bailed ahead of a trial at Preston Crown Court but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of fraud on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>She was sentenced to 34 weeks in a young offenders institution and must also pay a \u00a3156 victim surcharge.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Constable Lisa Carr, of Lancashire Police, said: &#8216;Jumeaux&#8217;s behaviour and actions were bizarre.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;She staged a kidnap in a failed attempt to con money out of a former boyfriend, posing tied up with a gun next to her.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;When the matter was reported to police, Jumeaux&#8217;s story quickly fell apart, with her admitting in interview she wanted the money to buy Christmas presents for her family.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I hope a custodial sentence will give her time to reflect the gravity of her actions and learn from her very serious mistakes.&#8217;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>20-year-old Leah Jumeaux, has been jailed for 34 weeks for faking her own kidnapping in a bid to con her ex-boyfriend out of \u00a32,000 so she could buy Christmas presents for her family.
