{"id":144995,"date":"2022-02-06T13:29:36","date_gmt":"2022-02-06T12:29:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=144995"},"modified":"2022-02-06T13:30:05","modified_gmt":"2022-02-06T12:30:05","slug":"sepcol-three-crew-members-found-alive-after-oil-vessel-fire-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/06\/sepcol-three-crew-members-found-alive-after-oil-vessel-fire-incident\/","title":{"rendered":"SEPCOL: Three crew members found alive after oil vessel fire incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shebah Exploration &amp; Production Company Limited (SEPCOL) has disclosed that three out of the ten crew members on board the oil vessel that exploded and sunk have been found alive.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement signed and released by the chief executive officer (CEO) of SEPCOL, Ikemefuna Okafor.<\/p>\n<p>According to SEPCOL,<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0the members would receive appropriate medical attention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel named \u2018Trinity Spirit\u2019 exploded last Wednesday. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The investigation team are yet to ascertain the cause of the incident.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The company had said ten crew members were onboard the facility when the incident occurred.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Okafor while providing an update on the incident on Sunday said<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0the team also discovered one yet-to-identified dead body in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/29\/stepsons-demolish-98-year-old-widows-house-in-anambra\/\">vicinity<\/a> of the FPSO.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can confirm that three (3) crew members have been found alive in the community and our priority is to ensure that they receive the appropriate medical attention they need. Furthermore, in the early hours of Sunday 6th February 2022, one dead body was discovered in the vicinity of the FPSO. The identity of the dead body is yet to be ascertained,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs earlier confirmed, the fire burnt out completely as of Thursday afternoon, 3rd Feb. 2022, thus enabling closer inspection of the vessel. A Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) with the relevant authorities, stakeholders and expert organisations took place on Saturday, 5th February 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe focus of our joint efforts is to prioritise investigations towards establishing the whereabouts, safety, and security of the 7 crew members still missing, clean up and limit damage to the environment, and establish the cause of the explosion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate the assistance provided by the Clean Nigeria Associates, the Chevron team, NOSDRA, NUPRC, SPDC, NIMASA and people in the community, particularly the fishermen, who have been of immense assistance since the incident occurred.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">On Saturday, the company said the fire burnt out completely and that a joint team with the relevant authorities, stakeholders and expert organisations have commenced investigations into the incident.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The oil vessel was holding about 50-60 thousand barrels of crude oil at the<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> time of the incident, Sharon Ikeazor, minister of state for environment, had stated.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shebah Exploration &amp; Production Company Limited (SEPCOL) has disclosed that three out of the ten crew members on board the oil vessel that exploded and sunk have been found alive.
