{"id":1486,"date":"2021-02-25T06:33:15","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T05:33:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=1486"},"modified":"2021-02-25T07:02:27","modified_gmt":"2021-02-25T06:02:27","slug":"insecurity-come-to-the-forest-and-lead-peace-talks-bandits-tell-president-buhari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/25\/insecurity-come-to-the-forest-and-lead-peace-talks-bandits-tell-president-buhari\/","title":{"rendered":"Insecurity: Come to the forest and lead peace talks, Bandits tell President Buhari"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the security situation of Nigeria worsens owing to incessant attacks and kidnapping mainly caused by banditry, President Muhammadu Buhari has been called by a group of bandits to personally oversee peace talks with them.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that bandits have been carrying out series of deadly attacks and kidnappings in northern Nigeria<\/p>\n<p>Recently, a prominent Islamic cleric, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/25\/northern-elders-to-sheikh-gumi-abort-your-mission-with-bandits-urgently\/\">Ahmad Gumi<\/a> had met with some of the bandits in the forests of Zamfara, suing for peace and harmony.<\/p>\n<p>A masked bandit in an interview with newsmen said if President Buhari could travel around the country when he was campaigning, nothing should stop him from coming for peace talks.<\/p>\n<p>He said an agreement was earlier reached with his group, but they were soon abandoned in the forest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn agreement was reached, but you left that person in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/22\/governor-ortom-to-herdsmen-respect-benue-laws-or-go-to-bauchi-state-and-carry-ak47\/\">forest<\/a> with a gun and nothing to substitute. What do you expect? How do you want that person to survive? All the promises made to us none of it was fulfilled,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president should personally come and preside over the talks. When he was campaigning, he travelled all over, why would he not do it now? He does not take these peace talks seriously and everyday people are being killed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no day that someone is not killed between Zamfara, Niger, Kaduna, Sokoto and Katsina. There is no tribe that is spared, gunmen kill, soldiers kill, vigilantes kill. Whoever you see with a gun today in Nigeria, he uses it to kill people. You may not know but if I were to tell you the situation of things in this country, you will cry. Even the president will cry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe supported this administration and accepted dialogue because we thought Buhari will fix this country, but he won\u2019t fix this country. From the time he praised Goodluck, Obasanjo, and Yar\u2019Adua, these were not praiseworthy. It would have been better if he had praised Abacha, because, under Abacha, pastoralists were being educated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring Abacha, there was allocation in the budget for the nomadic communities. There was no such thing again since Obasanjo became president. They stopped looking after the Fulanis.
