{"id":149590,"date":"2022-02-16T15:26:11","date_gmt":"2022-02-16T14:26:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=149590"},"modified":"2022-02-16T15:26:11","modified_gmt":"2022-02-16T14:26:11","slug":"kanu-may-go-blind-his-sight-deteriorating-lawyer-tells-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/16\/kanu-may-go-blind-his-sight-deteriorating-lawyer-tells-court\/","title":{"rendered":"Kanu may go blind, his sight deteriorating \u2013 Lawyer tells court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mike Ezekhome, Lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Wednesday, decried the deteriorating health of his client.<\/p>\n<p>Ezekhome lamented that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/16\/fresh-evidence-emerges-in-nnamdi-kanus-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kanu<\/a> may go blind in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.<\/p>\n<p>The Senior Advocate Nigeria raised the alarm at the resumed trial of Kanu at the Federal High Court in Abuja, which was presided by Justice Binta Nyako.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ozekhome, \u201cKanu may go blind if nothing was urgently done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ozekhome also argued that Kanu was extraordinarily renditioned from Kenya in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The senior advocate stressed that the offences allegedly committed by Kanu have no basis, adding that where and when they were committed was not stated in the charges.<\/p>\n<p>He also stated that Nigeria has no territorial jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>Kanu is facing a 15-count charge bordering on terrorism, treason, incitement and operating an unlawful group.<\/p>\n<p>The IPOB leader had pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mike Ezekhome, Lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Wednesday, decried the deteriorating health of his client.
