{"id":151320,"date":"2022-02-20T13:50:24","date_gmt":"2022-02-20T12:50:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=151320"},"modified":"2022-02-20T13:50:24","modified_gmt":"2022-02-20T12:50:24","slug":"lasuth-holds-womans-corpse-in-morgue-over-n860000-debt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/20\/lasuth-holds-womans-corpse-in-morgue-over-n860000-debt\/","title":{"rendered":"LASUTH holds woman\u2019s corpse in morgue over N860,000 debt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital has held on the corpse of a mother of three, Fatimo Olamide, in its morgue over N860,000 outstanding medical bill.<\/p>\n<p>According to PUNCH, Olamide was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital for a terminal illness and underwent a surgery before she died on Monday, February 14.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased&#8217;s father, Shamusideen Shobowale said the family had spent about N1m \u2013 sourced from relations and friends \u2013 on Olamide\u2019s treatment and were only able to raise N200,000 out of the N860,000 outstanding.<\/p>\n<p>The 64-year-old retiree as a head watchman at Ikorodu Senior Grammar School, said Olamide was supposed to be buried in accordance with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/12\/late-soun-of-ogbomoso-buried-according-to-islamic-rites\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Islamic rites<\/a>, lamenting that the family was sad the burial was being delayed.<\/p>\n<p>Shobowale urged the state government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to his aid so that his daughter\u2019s would be released for burial soon.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cMy daughter was admitted at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/24\/lasuth-attack-hospital-workers-waited-12-hours-before-treatment-victim-dead-says-family\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LASUTH<\/a> early this month and she underwent a surgery. We spent about N1m on her treatment but she later died. We are appealing for solidarity so that she can be buried. She is survived by husband and three children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hospital bill is N860,000. The family contributed and we could only raise N200,000. I don\u2019t have any means to pay the bill and the hospital is insisting that we should look for the money.
