{"id":152599,"date":"2022-02-23T05:01:43","date_gmt":"2022-02-23T04:01:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=152599"},"modified":"2022-02-23T05:01:43","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T04:01:43","slug":"sylvester-oromoni-dowen-colleges-doctor-makes-fresh-revelation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/23\/sylvester-oromoni-dowen-colleges-doctor-makes-fresh-revelation\/","title":{"rendered":"Sylvester Oromoni: Dowen College&#8217;s doctor makes fresh revelation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A medical doctor at Dowen College, Dr. Mojisola Bisiriyu, told an Ikeja Corona\u2019s Court that no medical test was conducted on the late student of the school, Sylvester Oromoni before he was taken home on health grounds.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN),\u00a0 Bisiriyu made the disclosure on Tuesday while being cross-examined by counsel to Oromoni Family, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN).<\/p>\n<p>Bisiriyu told the court that he had been working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/15\/breaking-how-police-report-indicted-dowen-college-late-kashamus-son-other-students-over-sylvesters-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dowen College<\/a> for five years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo test was conducted on him because, from my assessment, the deceased\u2019s case warranted not taking him to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe school policy states that parents must be informed whenever their children are sick because some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/23\/sylvester-oromoni-how-some-dowen-college-parents-hindered-investigation-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parents<\/a> have specific hospitals they want to take their children to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe only refer serious cases to the school hospital, which is Lifeline Children Hospital in Lekki, Lagos, and it is a three-minute drive from the school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not refer the deceased to the school hospital because his case was not an emergency one,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Bisiriyu, who said her job was to attend to the medical needs of the students and alert parents if need be, testified that the deceased had pains on his right thigh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe deceased came to the sickbay with leg pain. I have my office at the sickbay and I saw the deceased on Nov. 22, 2021, after I had gone for a COVID-19 routine checkup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis leg was massaged on my instruction by a nurse. On Nov. 23, 2021, he told me he still had pain on his right thigh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She, however, said that when she saw the student being assisted by his guardian into a car to go home, she advised that he should be taken to a hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, I did not give them a referral note to another hospital,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Questioning Bisiriyu further, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/05\/femi-falana-reacts-to-lagos-state-govts-legal-advice-that-exonerated-students-and-staff-of-dowen-college\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Falana<\/a> said, \u201cDr. Soyemi, a pathologist, said that all the deceased needed was a dose of antibiotics and he would be fine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy didn\u2019t you apply antibiotics on the deceased?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Responding, Bisiriyu said: \u201cAs a medical doctor, you do not go ahead administering antibiotics without a proper checkup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this instance, there was no temperature, no fever. We are not a hospital and we are not allowed to run tests,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The doctor said that she was unaware of the allegation that the deceased had a twisted tongue in April 2021 and had to be taken home from the school.<\/p>\n<p>The witness also said that she did not notice any scalding of the student\u2019s lips on Nov. 23, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The Coroner, Mr. Mikhail Kadiri, adjourned proceedings until Feb. 28 for a continuation of the hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A medical doctor at Dowen College, Dr. Mojisola Bisiriyu, told an Ikeja Corona\u2019s Court that no medical test was conducted on the late student of the school, Sylvester Oromoni before he was taken home on health grounds.
