{"id":152942,"date":"2022-02-23T19:27:32","date_gmt":"2022-02-23T18:27:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=152942"},"modified":"2022-02-23T19:27:32","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T18:27:32","slug":"south-african-court-remands-nigerian-man-allegedly-found-in-possession-of-drugs-worth-n20m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/23\/south-african-court-remands-nigerian-man-allegedly-found-in-possession-of-drugs-worth-n20m\/","title":{"rendered":"South African court remands Nigerian man allegedly found in possession of drugs worth N20m"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nigerian man, Charles Chukwudi, has been remanded for being in possession of drugs worth approximately R750 000, illegal dealing in drugs, and contravention of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act in Johannesburg, South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Police spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu in a statement, said that the Hawks\u2019 Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Johannesburg received intelligence regarding suspicious illegal drug dealings in the Westonaria precinct, west of Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>Police kept surveillance at the positively identified premises on Sunday, 20 February 2022, and pounced on the 43-year-old suspect who was on his way out.<\/p>\n<p>Upon searching the suspect, the investigation team found about 40grams of suspected cat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/24\/36-year-old-nigerian-man-arrested-in-india-with-drugs-worth-n54m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drugs<\/a>, in his possession.<\/p>\n<p>Investigation team proceeded to the dwelling where more than 350grams of suspected crystal meth drugs as well as additional 175grams of cat drugs were found inside plastic bags ready for distribution.<\/p>\n<p>Chukwudi was immediately apprehended and charged.<\/p>\n<p>During his first court appearance on Monday, the court postponed the case to Tuesday, 22 February 2022, for legal representation.<\/p>\n<p>Today the court remanded Chukwudi in custody pending <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/23\/sylvester-oromoni-how-some-dowen-college-parents-hindered-investigation-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigation<\/a> and the case has been postponed to Friday, 25 February 2022 for a formal bail application.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nigerian man, Charles Chukwudi, has been remanded for being in possession of drugs worth approximately R750 000, illegal dealing in drugs, and contravention of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act in Johannesburg, South Africa.
