{"id":155630,"date":"2022-03-01T16:09:22","date_gmt":"2022-03-01T15:09:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=155630"},"modified":"2022-03-01T16:09:22","modified_gmt":"2022-03-01T15:09:22","slug":"we-will-not-lift-pms-for-depot-owners-selling-above-official-price-nupeng","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/01\/we-will-not-lift-pms-for-depot-owners-selling-above-official-price-nupeng\/","title":{"rendered":"We will not lift PMS for depot owners selling above official price &#8211; NUPENG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has stated that its members will not lift products for depot owners selling Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) above the official depot price of N148.77.<\/p>\n<p>This was stated on Tuesday in an interview with NAN by\u00a0<span class=\"s2\">Afolabi Olawale, NUPENG\u2019s secretary-general in Lagos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The official depot price, also known as an ex-depot price, is the price at which depot owners sell the product to retail outlets and fuel marketers across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Last month, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) had confirmed the<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0importation of petrol with methanol quantities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The development\u00a0<span class=\"s3\">caused long queues<\/span>\u00a0across major cities as many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/01\/motorists-blame-marketers-as-fuel-scarcity-hits-taraba\/\">filling stations<\/a> shut down services to contain the spread of the off-spec petrol.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Last Friday, the union had issued a 24-hour ultimatum, with effect from February 27, to marketers to revert to the official rate of N148.77.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The union had accused the oil marketers of exploiting Nigerians by inflating the prices of PMS from their depots.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cOne of the lines of action we are going to take is any depot that is not selling at the official rate, our members will not carry their products,\u201d NAN quoted Olawale as saying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cDepot owners are not the ones directly importing the products and are taking products from NNPC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cNobody has given official statements that PMS is no longer under subsidy regime and in that wise, the general public cannot be buying products at N250, N220, N180, from the depot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cWe are asking all these depot owners to stop exploiting the general public and sell at\u00a0 an official rate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has stated that its members will not lift products for depot owners selling Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) above the official depot price of N148.77.
