{"id":15696,"date":"2021-03-31T14:34:25","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T13:34:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=15696"},"modified":"2021-03-31T14:34:25","modified_gmt":"2021-03-31T13:34:25","slug":"caregivers-allegedly-brutalized-young-maid-over-witchcraft-accusation-in-anambra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/31\/caregivers-allegedly-brutalized-young-maid-over-witchcraft-accusation-in-anambra\/","title":{"rendered":"Caregivers allegedly brutalized young maid over witchcraft accusation in Anambra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A yet-to-be identified couple have been alleged of abusing and brutalising their maid in Ifite Awka, Anambra state over witchcraft accusation.<\/p>\n<p>Photos of the maid identified as Ukamaka revealed new, old wounds and scars all over her body allegedly\u00a0inflicted on her by her pregnant madam and the woman&#8217;s husband.<\/p>\n<p>Prince Izu Agbo, a neighbour of the couple made it known that he\u00a0heard a child screaming as she was allegedly abused and called a witch for up to an hour.<\/p>\n<p>He said he looked into the next compound and saw the child being beaten, kicked, and pushed, such that she almost fell into the well in the compound.<\/p>\n<p>Izu further said he went downstairs to intervene when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/23\/three-remanded-for-allegedly-slapping-beating-osun-royal-father\/\">beating<\/a> would not stop.<\/p>\n<p>When he asked the reason for the beating, the caregiver reportedly said it&#8217;s because the girl picked food from the dustbin.<\/p>\n<p>Prince Izu Agbo said he then inquired from the maid, who looks no older that 10 years old, and she said her madam starves her while feeding her children in her presence, yet expects her to do most of the chores in the house. Due to hunger, she resorted to picking food from the trash.<\/p>\n<p>He added that when he saw the girl, her face and clothes were covered in blood.<\/p>\n<p>Other parts of the girl&#8217;s body was also scarred, injuries Agbo said were inflicted on her by the madam and her husband.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed that they took in the girl last year with the promise of sending her to school, but they haven&#8217;t fulfilled that promise.<\/p>\n<p>He said the case was reported to the police and it&#8217;s now being handled by the B Division of the Anambra State Police Command.<\/p>\n<p>See
