{"id":1571,"date":"2021-02-25T16:22:53","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T15:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=1571"},"modified":"2021-02-25T16:22:53","modified_gmt":"2021-02-25T15:22:53","slug":"icpc-secures-final-forfeiture-of-919202-found-with-federal-high-court-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/25\/icpc-secures-final-forfeiture-of-919202-found-with-federal-high-court-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"ICPC secures final forfeiture of $919,202 found with Federal High Court staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has secured the final forfeiture of $919,202.07 fraudulently kept in an interest yielding bank account by some staff of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement by the commission\u2019s spokesperson, Azuka Agugua, and made available to newsmen in Abuja, on Thursday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/24\/icpc-raises-concerns-over-use-of-cryptocurrency-for-ransom-payments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ICPC<\/a> uncovered the amount from the three respondents including the Chief Registrar, the Deputy Registrar of the Federal High Court and the Station Road, Port-Harcourt Branch of Union Bank of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said: \u201cIn the course of investigating a petition written against some officials of the court for alleged violation of ICPC Act 2000, the Commission\u2019s special investigation team uncovered the money \u201cbeing the sum of confiscated, value and sold vessel hidden in a bank account.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While ruling on the Interim Order of Forfeiture, according to the statement, Justice Mohammed Sani of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, granted the commission\u2019s prayers for interim forfeiture of the sum pending the final hearing of the case.<\/p>\n<p>In his ruling on the motion on notice for the final forfeiture of the money, Justice Sani held that he was satisfied that ICPC had placed sufficient evidence before the Court to justify a final forfeiture of the contentious money.<\/p>\n<p>He, therefore, ordered Union Bank, Station Road Branch, Port-Harcourt to immediately pay the money into the Federal Government\u2019s Treasury Single Account as the money in question rightly belonged to the Federal Government of Nigeria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has secured the final forfeiture of $919,202.07 fraudulently kept in an interest yielding bank account by some staff of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
