Mr Dave Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi State, and his deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe, have been sacked by a Federal High Court in Abuja for unlawfully defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n

Their defection was deemed illegal, unconstitutional, null, and void by the court, and they were ordered to vacate their positions immediately.<\/p>\n

In a ruling issued on Tuesday, Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered Umahi and his deputy to cease acting as Governor and Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State.<\/p>\n

The judge held that the votes that brought them to office belonged to the PDP<\/a> and cannot hold on to the votes having elected to jettison the party that nominated them.<\/p>\n

Justice Ekwo also held that the votes cast for PDP in the March 9, 2019 governorship election are not transferrable to the APC that failed in the election.<\/p>\n
