{"id":160000,"date":"2022-03-10T19:01:39","date_gmt":"2022-03-10T18:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=160000"},"modified":"2022-03-10T19:01:39","modified_gmt":"2022-03-10T18:01:39","slug":"father-kills-seven-day-old-baby-girl-because-he-wanted-his-first-born-to-be-a-boy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/10\/father-kills-seven-day-old-baby-girl-because-he-wanted-his-first-born-to-be-a-boy\/","title":{"rendered":"Father kills seven-day-old baby girl because he wanted his first-born to be a boy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Pakistani father, Shahzaib Khan, has been arrested on suspicion of shooting dead his seven-day-old baby girl because he wanted his first-born to be a boy.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the newborn baby named Jannat &#8211; meaning &#8216;heaven&#8217; in Urdu &#8211; was shot five times on Monday at her home in the central city of Mianwali.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dawn newspaper, the suspect allegedly entered his house and ordered his wife to hand over Jannat before shooting dead the week-old baby.<\/p>\n<p>Shahzaib, who has been married for two years, then fled the scene but was arrested on Thursday in a nearby district, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Mail Online reports that in some parts of Pakistan, tribal customs mean that baby girls can be considered an insult to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/28\/photos-jealous-wife-screws-nut-onto-cheating-husbands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">manhood<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The girl&#8217;s maternal uncle, Hidayatullah Khan, launched a formal complaint against the suspect for the killing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;A baby girl was born&#8230;he was infuriated,&#8217; Hidayatullah said, referring to the father.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-160002 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/03\/kunlenet07\/2022\/03\/10\/Shahzaib-Khan-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"656\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/03\/kunlenet07\/2022\/03\/10\/Shahzaib-Khan-2.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/03\/kunlenet07\/2022\/03\/10\/Shahzaib-Khan-2-300x246.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/03\/kunlenet07\/2022\/03\/10\/Shahzaib-Khan-2-768x630.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The devastated relative said Shahzaib had not returned to the family home after discovering his wife had given birth to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/17\/13-guests-die-including-baby-after-falling-into-well-during-wedding-ceremony-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">baby<\/a> girl and refused to accept her.<\/p>\n<p>Hidayatullah said the suspect entered the family home where relatives had gathered and ordered his wife to hand over Jannat to him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The suspect took the girl into his hands and shot her dead,&#8217; he told Dawn.<\/p>\n<p>Hidayatullah claimed that he had tried to take the baby away from Shahzaib but the suspect had pointed the gun at him and the other relatives and threatened to shoot them if they moved closer.<\/p>\n<p>The case sparked fury in Pakistan, with the public condemning the &#8216;brutal&#8217; death of the newborn baby.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;This is beyond barbaric,, brutal and vicious. The only solution to stop this brutality is hanging him publicly,&#8217; Tehseen Qasim wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I&#8217;m disgusted to the core. I feel terribly for the mother. Look at the beautiful daughter she had.
