{"id":161476,"date":"2022-03-14T04:50:32","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T03:50:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=161476"},"modified":"2022-03-14T04:50:32","modified_gmt":"2022-03-14T03:50:32","slug":"ndlea-seeks-malamis-approval-to-confiscate-kyaris-assets-bank-accounts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/14\/ndlea-seeks-malamis-approval-to-confiscate-kyaris-assets-bank-accounts\/","title":{"rendered":"NDLEA seeks Malami\u2019s approval to confiscate Kyari\u2019s assets, bank accounts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has written a letter to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, seeking his approval for the confiscation of properties and assets belonging to the once revered super cop.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the NDLEA\u2019s request was dispatched to the justice minister last week following the March 7 arraignment of Kyari and his men for dealing in cocaine.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that NDLEA had narrated how it filmed the moment\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/14\/how-we-filmed-abba-kyari-offering-61400-cash-for-release-of-25kg-of-cocaine-ndlea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kyari, was negotiating a drug deal for the release of 25kg of cocaine<\/a>\u00a0and offered $61,400 cash to NDLEA officer.<\/p>\n<p>Kyari is facing eight counts of conspiracy, obstruction, and dealing in cocaine, and other related offences at the Federal High Court, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>According to PUNCH, a source said the drug agency\u2019s request is receiving the AGF\u2019s attention, noting that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/13\/i-didnt-exonerate-abba-kyari-i-only-demand-further-probe-malami\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Malami<\/a> was in the process of approving the seizure of the embattled DCP\u2019s assets and property to ensure he did not benefit from the proceeds of crime.<\/p>\n<p>The Kyari\u2019s assets that will be confiscated include cash and money in bank accounts, vehicles, real estate, notably hotels, residential and commercial buildings; personal effects such as wristwatches, jewellery and other valuable possessions, PUNCH reports.<\/p>\n<p>This publication had earlier reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/14\/ndlea-traces-n4-2bn-to-abba-kyari-co-accuseds-accounts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NDLEA traced N4.2bn to Kyari<\/a>; as well as his deputy, ACP Sunday Ubua bank accounts.<\/p>\n<p>The AGF\u2019s approval was said to have been required by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/13\/ndlea-arrests-general-overseer-with-drugs-at-lagos-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NDLEA<\/a> to seize a suspect\u2019s property pending conviction by the court.<\/p>\n<p>A senior officer stated, \u201cUnder the NDLEA Act, the NDLEA cannot forfeit his assets unless based on the consent of the Attorney-General.
