{"id":161531,"date":"2022-03-14T06:53:35","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T05:53:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=161531"},"modified":"2022-03-14T06:54:44","modified_gmt":"2022-03-14T05:54:44","slug":"man-to-fg-provide-palliative-to-help-us-cope-with-increase-in-diesel-price","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/14\/man-to-fg-provide-palliative-to-help-us-cope-with-increase-in-diesel-price\/","title":{"rendered":"MAN to FG: Provide palliative to help us cope with increase in diesel price"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has called on the federal government to provide palliative measures to address the effects of the price increase in diesel.<\/p>\n<p>This was stated on Sunday by\u00a0Lanre Popoola, chairman of the association in the region covering Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states at a media briefing in Ibadan, the Oyo capital.<\/p>\n<p>As of March 4, the ex-depot price of diesel per litre crossed the N500 mark.<\/p>\n<p>A few days after, pump prices had risen by 25 percent to over\u00a0N600\u00a0per litre.<\/p>\n<p>According to Popoola, it has become difficult ensuring production of goods as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/28\/reduce-prices-of-cement-and-steel-to-make-housing-affordable-emefiele-tells-manufacturers\/\">manufacturers<\/a> now buy diesel for between N720 and N730 per litre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is getting extremely difficult to produce and I don\u2019t know how we are going to cope, because 70 percent of industries are running on diesel. There is no light,\u201d NAN quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no power supply. We now hav 30 percent of what it used to be, whereas the disposable income of people is not increasing and the costs of products are going up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Popoola said if the situation persisted, it could lead to bigger issues that would further affect the nation\u2019s economy and increase hardship.<\/p>\n<p>He added that there is also the challenge that manufacturers cannot pay diesel suppliers in instalments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey cannot again supply you with diesel and allow you to pay in two weeks. It is either you do cash and carry, or pay ahead, because they too cannot predict the cost of the product,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I don\u2019t blame them. Imagine you bought diesel last week at N630 per litre and the next day, it is sold for N730 per litre. How will you replace your stock?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe the government can come in and do a kind of palliative for us. It is either we have light 24 hours per week to run our factories or do a palliative on diesel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut unfortunately, we don\u2019t produce diesel in this country. If the refineries are working, it is a different ball game.
