{"id":161898,"date":"2022-03-14T20:28:05","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T19:28:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=161898"},"modified":"2022-03-14T20:28:05","modified_gmt":"2022-03-14T19:28:05","slug":"policeman-allegedly-flees-after-shooting-oyo-polytechnic-student-during-stop-and-search-operation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/14\/policeman-allegedly-flees-after-shooting-oyo-polytechnic-student-during-stop-and-search-operation\/","title":{"rendered":"Policeman allegedly flees after shooting Oyo Polytechnic student during stop and search operation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A trigger happy policeman has reportedly fled after shooting and injuring a student of the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic in Eruwa, Oyo State.<\/p>\n<p>The incident was said to have happened when the student, Samuel Akinsuyi, was going to Ibadan from Eruwa on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The policeman stopped him during a stop and search operation and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/22\/edo-police-arrest-officer-who-assaulted-and-shot-at-travelers-in-viral-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">assaulted<\/a> him thoroughly before shooting him in the leg.<\/p>\n<p>The officer was said to have fled the scene immediately after shooting the student of Business Administration Department.<\/p>\n<p>The South-West coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Olatunji Adegboye, in a statement on Monday said the injured student was now battling with paralysis as a result of the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>He also accused the police of cover up, while lamenting what he described as incessant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/04\/newlywed-undergoes-brain-surgery-after-police-torture-remains-unstable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">police brutality<\/a>, especially against students along Ibadan-Eruwa road.<\/p>\n<p>Adegboye said, \u201cOn a daily basis, harmless and helpless Nigerian citizens continue to fall victim to bloodthirsty police officers who mete out on Nigerians various inhuman treatments ranging from verbal assault, outright assault, unlawful arrest, unjust detention and more often than not, being shot at.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose saddled with the responsibility of safeguarding us from danger have turned themselves to the actual danger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Friday, March 11, 2022, the Nigerian students yet again suffered a great injustice from the hands of a reckless policeman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAkinsuyi Samuel, a Business Administration student at the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic in Eruwa, was beaten and then shot on the leg by a yet-to-be-identified stop and search police officer, on his way from Eruwa to Ibadan, on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis demonic action has thrown Mr. Samuel Akinsuyi into a titanic battle against paralysis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is rather unfortunate that several days after the criminal incident, the Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command, and the Police Service Commission have failed to make convincing action statement over this persistent cankerworm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the custom is, most times when an officer of the law infringes on the fundamental human rights of the citizens, the police force and the service commission usually perfect a cover up and make sure that justice is circumvented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUp till now, the assailant remains unidentified.
