{"id":164780,"date":"2022-03-21T06:53:54","date_gmt":"2022-03-21T05:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=164780"},"modified":"2022-03-21T06:54:50","modified_gmt":"2022-03-21T05:54:50","slug":"its-an-offence-for-a-vehicle-to-break-down-and-obstruct-flow-of-traffic-lastma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/21\/its-an-offence-for-a-vehicle-to-break-down-and-obstruct-flow-of-traffic-lastma\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s an offence for a vehicle to break down and obstruct flow of traffic &#8211; LASTMA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) has stated that it is an offence for a vehicle to break down and obstruct traffic flow.<\/p>\n<p>This was made known on Sunday by the regulatory agency via its official Twitter handle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c#DoYouKnow that it\u2019s a traffic offence if your vehicle breaks down and obstructs free flow of traffic?\u201d the tweet read.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/followlastma\/status\/1505499626979401728?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1505499626979401728%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-16729583124133639328.ampproject.net%2F2203041950000%2Fframe.html<\/p>\n<p>In response, several Twitter users complained that the breakdown of vehicles should not be an offence, as it may not be the fault of the driver.<\/p>\n<p>LASTMA spokesperson, Olumide Filade while explaining to newsmen said\u00a0the agency has legal backing on the rule.<\/p>\n<p>He said the responsibility to ensure a vehicle is in good condition lies with the car owner.<\/p>\n<p>Filade said any road obstruction as a result of vehicle breakdown has penalties such as payment of obstruction fine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe onus or the responsibility of your vehicle moving from point A to point B without causing an obstruction for anybody rests on the owner of the vehicle,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is why even on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/06\/15\/osinbajo-unveils-first-electric-car-inaugurates-frscs-national-traffic-radio\/\">traffic radio<\/a>, there is a jingle that they play that ensures you check your vehicle in the morning to ensure it will be able to make the journey to and fro without causing any problem on the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur own job is to make sure that when there is a breakdown of vehicles on the road, we are supposed to move it quickly off the road so that it will not be an obstruction to other people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo that gives us legal backing.
