{"id":165069,"date":"2022-03-21T16:41:09","date_gmt":"2022-03-21T15:41:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=165069"},"modified":"2022-03-21T19:54:02","modified_gmt":"2022-03-21T18:54:02","slug":"court-sacks-20-cross-river-lawmakers-for-defecting-to-apc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/21\/court-sacks-20-cross-river-lawmakers-for-defecting-to-apc\/","title":{"rendered":"Court sacks 20 Cross River lawmakers for defecting to APC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja has sacked 20 members of the Cross River State House of Assembly for defecting to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers were members of the Peoples Democratic Party, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/21\/plateau-apc-dismisses-impeached-speakers-defection-to-pdp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PDP<\/a>, before their defection.<\/p>\n<p>The court declared that lawmakers, having abandoned the political party that sponsored them to power, ought to vacate their seats.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Taiwo Taiwo gave the judgment in a suit marked FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/975\/2021, which was filed by the PDP.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201dThe action of the 5th to the 25th Defendants is feeble and constitutes an attempt to pull wool over the eyes of the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir counter affidavit is manifestly defective\u201d Justice Taiwo held.<\/p>\n<p>He, therefore, granted all the reliefs sought by the PDP, warning politicians to know that power belongs to the citizens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja has sacked 20 members of the Cross River State House of Assembly for defecting to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.
