{"id":165858,"date":"2022-03-23T04:16:52","date_gmt":"2022-03-23T03:16:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=165858"},"modified":"2022-03-23T04:16:52","modified_gmt":"2022-03-23T03:16:52","slug":"single-lady-allegedly-murdered-and-burnt-alive-for-demanding-for-her-fathers-inheritance-in-ebonyi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/23\/single-lady-allegedly-murdered-and-burnt-alive-for-demanding-for-her-fathers-inheritance-in-ebonyi\/","title":{"rendered":"Single lady allegedly murdered and burnt alive for demanding for her father\u2019s inheritance in Ebonyi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>35-year-old single lady, Nnenaya Onu, was allegedly murdered and burnt alive by her assailants for demanding her own share of her father\u2019s inheritance in Ebonyi State.<\/p>\n<p>Nnenaya was allegedly beaten, stripped naked, dismembered and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/02\/bishop-burnt-alive-son-beheaded-houses-razed-in-cross-river-community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">burnt alive<\/a> in Onicha Igboeze Community of Onicha Local Government Area of the state.<\/p>\n<p>According to Vanguard, the victim was murdered behind her late father\u2019s house as her only brother died some years ago, under a mysterious circumstance in the community.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with Vanguard on Phone, the State Coordinator, National Human Right Commission, Christopher Onyekachi Okorie, who condemned the gruesome <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/22\/bamise-ayanwola-court-remands-brt-driver-for-alleged-rape-murder-of-passenger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">murder<\/a> of Nnenaya, stated that there have not been any record of their (assailants) arrest in the State, since the incident occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Okorie said; \u201cShe was murdered in cold blood, her leg chopped off and her whole belongings heaped on her while she was burnt beyond recognition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll these happened behind her father\u2019s house at Onicha Igbeze of Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer offence is that she insisted on demanding her father\u2019s inheritance as a woman. She was not married but lived in her late father\u2019s house at Onicha Igbeze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer only brother died years ago under mysterious circumstances according to the old mother. She has a surviving sister, Juliet Onu, who is married.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer old agonizing mother points at her cousins as the suspects of this atrocity due to their (the said Cousins) numerous threats to her life before she was eventually murdered, dismembered, and burnt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer killers forbade any person from the village from talking about the incident nor even sharing the photo of her burnt carcass either on social media or otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer poor mother wants justice but has no money to sponsor police investigations and arrests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The victim was said to have been killed when her mother traveled out of the community to Abakaliki to visit Juliet, her daughter.<\/p>\n<p>The State Coordinator of NHRC said he has written a petition to Ebonyi State Police Command over the incident as he was yet to get any response from the Command.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to the sister of the deceased, the incident took place on the 23rd of December 2021 and since then nothing has been done to bring justice to the victim.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, who confirmed the incident said she will get back on the present status of the case.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>35-year-old single lady, Nnenaya Onu, was allegedly murdered and burnt alive by her assailants for demanding her own share of her father\u2019s inheritance in Ebonyi State.
