{"id":165894,"date":"2022-03-23T05:41:42","date_gmt":"2022-03-23T04:41:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=165894"},"modified":"2022-03-23T05:41:42","modified_gmt":"2022-03-23T04:41:42","slug":"female-student-and-sisters-beat-up-rivers-teacher-tutor-alleges-cheating-drug-abuse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/23\/female-student-and-sisters-beat-up-rivers-teacher-tutor-alleges-cheating-drug-abuse\/","title":{"rendered":"Female student and sisters beat up Rivers teacher, tutor alleges cheating, drug abuse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A female student and her sisters allegedly beat up Charles Ordu, a teacher at the Rumuokuta Girls Secondary School in the Obio\/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ordu, he had caught the student cheating during an exam, adding that after she was sent home to bring her parents, she resorted to verbal abuse and tore his shirt.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/08\/02\/student-stabs-teacher-to-death-in-plateau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">teacher<\/a> told journalists that the student later returned to the school with her sisters to attack him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was sitting in my office. The next thing, a student ran to me and said, \u2018Charles, run, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/11\/ss3-student-stabs-colleague-to-death-in-akwa-ibom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">student<\/a> is coming with her sisters.\u2019 I thought as usual when a parent comes, you are coming to find out what really transpired. But where I was sitting, that was how I saw four girls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey walked up to me and said, \u2018Are you the one that flogged our sister? You will see the mad sisters now.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile I remained seated, one had already gone behind me and used something to rub my eyes. Four of them gathered; they didn\u2019t mind and started <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/14\/enugu-cp-orders-probe-into-beating-of-female-officer-by-colleague\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beating<\/a> me up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ordu said it was not the first time such a thing would happen in the school, as other teachers had suffered a similar fate in the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has become a recurring decimal to the point that the vice principal, administration, has faced it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast week or thereabout, they locked a teacher inside the toilet. The students are turning into something else. There are groups that I have also reported to the management and the principal suspended those ones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose ones are into drugs. They come to school with Indian hemp. They take cocaine and cigarette. I had caught and punished them several times. Fortunately, the day the management also invited them, lighters and those things were found in their bags,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Obip\/Akpor LGA branch, Derek Amadi, described the incident as an insult to society and urged parents to do better in the upbringing of their children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParents should be cautioned. If there is any situation in school, they should first report to the school authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this case, they should report to the principal or the headmistress where the matter would be taken to the appropriate quarters, and not to come and harass teachers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Amadi threatened that any further attack on teachers would be taken up by the union.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A female student and her sisters allegedly beat up Charles Ordu, a teacher at the Rumuokuta Girls Secondary School in the Obio\/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
