{"id":165922,"date":"2022-03-23T06:14:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-23T05:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=165922"},"modified":"2022-03-23T06:22:38","modified_gmt":"2022-03-23T05:22:38","slug":"2023-southwest-pdp-must-unite-before-we-become-ultimate-losers-makinde","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/23\/2023-southwest-pdp-must-unite-before-we-become-ultimate-losers-makinde\/","title":{"rendered":"2023: Southwest PDP must unite before we become ultimate losers &#8211; Makinde"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the south-west needs to present a united front ahead of the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement released on Tuesday by Taiwo Adisa, chief press secretary to Makinde shortly after the<span class=\"s2\">\u00a0meeting of the PDP south-west caucus in Ibadan, the Oyo capital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Makinde called on members of the party in the south-west to unite as it would enable the region win a national position in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/06\/2023-weve-not-released-timetable-for-general-elections-pdp\/\">general election<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe are in the election season already. The timetable is out and candidates for various positions will emerge within the next eight to nine weeks. And as PDP south-west zone, what position are we presenting? We know that if south-west and Yorubaland is not peaceful, things would not also be settled nationally,\u201d he said<\/span>\u201e<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThat is just the fact. We have also gone through the path that, because of disunity, we were left out in the scheme of things.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWhen the founding fathers of this party came together, they spoke about fairness, equity, justice and they decided that the six major positions nationally must be shared among the six zones of Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThat has always been the case until 2011. Because of the in-fighting, disunity, the south-west did not have a single position out of the six national positions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThat was how we lost all completely and we don\u2019t want to walk through that path again. It has happened to us before and we don\u2019t want it to happen again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cBut the only way it won\u2019t happen again is for us to unite and de-emphasise whatever issues we have with ourselves individually.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">We must come together to tell ourselves what we are going to demand nationally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cTruth is, we are going to be the ultimate losers and what happened in the past will happen again if we don\u2019t get our act together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cYou can force yourself to win the party\u2019s primary but can you force yourself on the populace?\u00a0<\/span>This is an opportunity for us to recalibrate and have a common position, moving forward in the national engagement with the unfolding scenario nationally.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the south-west needs to present a united front ahead of the 2023 elections.
