{"id":167279,"date":"2022-03-25T11:56:09","date_gmt":"2022-03-25T10:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=167279"},"modified":"2022-03-25T11:56:09","modified_gmt":"2022-03-25T10:56:09","slug":"woman-in-uk-diagnosed-with-new-ebola-like-disease-that-has-40-death-rate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/25\/woman-in-uk-diagnosed-with-new-ebola-like-disease-that-has-40-death-rate\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman in UK diagnosed with new Ebola-like disease that has 40% death rate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A tick-borne viral disease that has a 40% death rate, has been diagnosed in a woman in UK.<\/p>\n<p>The viral disease known as Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever is an illness usually transmitted by ticks and livestock animals.<\/p>\n<p>The woman, who had recently travelled to Central Asia, was diagnosed at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is receiving specialist care at the Royal Free Hospital in London.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Susan Hopkins, chief medical adviser at the UKHSA, said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/10\/08\/nigeria-records-290-new-cases-of-covid-19-in-15-states\/\">virus<\/a> &#8220;does not spread easily between people and the overall risk to the public is very low&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>She said the agency was working to contact people who have been in close contact with the woman to assess them and provide advice.<\/p>\n<p>According to the World Health Organisation, if patients die it is usually in the second week of infection.<\/p>\n<p>In patients who recover, improvement generally begins on the ninth or 10th day after the onset of illness.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Hopkins added: &#8220;UKHSA and the NHS have well-established and robust infection control procedures for dealing with cases of imported infectious disease and these will be strictly followed.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A tick-borne viral disease that has a 40% death rate, has been diagnosed in a woman in UK.
