{"id":169164,"date":"2022-03-29T12:33:48","date_gmt":"2022-03-29T11:33:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=169164"},"modified":"2022-03-29T12:35:10","modified_gmt":"2022-03-29T11:35:10","slug":"serial-fraudster-who-duped-nigerian-army-general-of-n180m-convicted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/29\/serial-fraudster-who-duped-nigerian-army-general-of-n180m-convicted\/","title":{"rendered":"Serial fraudster who duped Nigerian Army General of N180m convicted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mohammed Sani Zubair, a serial fraudster, was sentenced to two years in jail.<\/p>\n<p>He was convicted and convicted by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Zubair was originally arraigned on a four-count allegation of fraudulent transactions on October 8, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>He and accomplices \u201cthat specialized in defrauding people\u201d, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/10\/man-convicted-for-operating-academy-where-young-boys-are-trained-on-internet-fraud-in-abuja\/\">scammed<\/a> retired Major General Geoffrey Ejiga to the tune of N180,000,000.<\/p>\n<p>The children petitioned the EFCC, alerting them that a syndicate exploited their father&#8217;s old age.<\/p>\n<p>In one of the counts, the EFCC said Zubair provided a written statement to an operator, Naziru Aminu Shehu, on October 28, 2016, &#8220;which you knew to be false.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>His offence is punishable under Section 39 (2) (a) and (b) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004.<\/p>\n<p>After Zubair pleaded \u201cnot guilty\u201d, prosecution counsel, Richards Dauda prayed for an accelerated hearing. Defence counsel, O. F. Ekengba did not object.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Ojukwu however gave the convict an option of a fine of N400,000.<\/p>\n<p>The anti-graft agency disclosed that it found out that Zubair was involved in several other fraudulent activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mohammed Sani Zubair, a serial fraudster, was sentenced to two years in jail.
