{"id":171981,"date":"2022-04-04T13:57:45","date_gmt":"2022-04-04T12:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=171981"},"modified":"2022-04-04T13:57:45","modified_gmt":"2022-04-04T12:57:45","slug":"ncdc-records-127-lassa-fever-deaths-as-cases-hit-681","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/04\/ncdc-records-127-lassa-fever-deaths-as-cases-hit-681\/","title":{"rendered":"NCDC records 127 Lassa fever deaths as cases hit 681"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has stated that 127 people have died of Lassa fever in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>This was made known by the agency<span class=\"s2\">\u00a0in its latest Lassa fever report for week 12 covering March 21 to March 27.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">It said in the reporting week, the number of new confirmed cases decreased from 29 in week 11, to 22 cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The cases were reported from Edo, Kogi, Bauchi, Ondo, Ebonyi, Plateau and Taraba States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">According to the report, from the beginning of the year, 3,542 suspected cases of Lassa fever were reported across the country, of which 681 were confirmed positive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cCumulatively from week 1 to week 12, 2022, 127 deaths have been reported with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 18.6% which is lower than the CFR for the same period in 2021 (21.3%),\u201d the report reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cIn total for 2022, 23 States have recorded at least one confirmed case across 92 Local Government Areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">According to the report, from the beginning of the year, 3,542 suspected cases of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/03\/18\/2022-ncdc-records-112-deaths-as-lassa-fever-cases-hit-630\/\">Lassa fever<\/a> were reported across the country, of which 681 were confirmed positive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cCumulatively from week 1 to week 12, 2022, 127 deaths have been reported with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 18.6% which is lower than the CFR for the same period in 2021 (21.3%),\u201d the report reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cIn total for 2022, 23 States have recorded at least one confirmed case across 92 Local Government Areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cOf all confirmed cases, 67% are from Ondo (28%), Edo (24%) and Bauchi (15%) States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cThe predominant age-group affected is 21-30 years (Range: 1 to 80 years, Median Age: 30 years). The male to female ratio for confirmed cases is 1:0.8.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cThe number of suspected cases has increased compared to that reported for the same period in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cNo new Healthcare worker affected in the reporting week 12.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cNational Lassa fever multi-partner, multi-sectoral Emergency Coordination Centre (EOC) activated to coordinate response activities at all levels.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has stated that 127 people have died of Lassa fever in 2022.
