{"id":172238,"date":"2022-04-05T03:57:13","date_gmt":"2022-04-05T02:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=172238"},"modified":"2022-04-05T03:57:13","modified_gmt":"2022-04-05T02:57:13","slug":"court-remands-teenager-for-raping-minor-in-ondo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/05\/court-remands-teenager-for-raping-minor-in-ondo\/","title":{"rendered":"Court remands teenager for raping minor in Ondo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Akure Magistrates Court ordered the remand of a 19-year-old male, Babatunde Bobola, to the Akure Correctional Centre for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl.<\/p>\n<p>On March 24, 2022, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, apprehended the defendant for allegedly committing the crime in Akure.<\/p>\n<p>He was prosecuted and arraigned in court on one count of rape.<\/p>\n<p>The state Prosecutor, O.F Akeredolu, informed the court at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/25\/court-remands-four-suspects-over-alleged-murder-of-young-man-in-edo\/\">proceedings<\/a> that the defendant had carnal knowledge of the victim.<\/p>\n<p>The charge read in part: \u201cThat you, Babatunde Bobola, on or about March 24, 2022, at about 16:00 hours, at Odige Street, Akure, a place within the criminal jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did have carnal knowledge of, an eight-year-old girl.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the prosecutor, the offenses contravene Sections 357 and 358 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006<\/p>\n<p>Giving the nature of the offense against the defendant, Akeredolu prayed for an order to remand him at the correctional centre, which was supported by an affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant pleaded not guilty but his plea was not taken.<\/p>\n<p>The Magistrate, N.K. Aladejana remanded the defendant in the Olokuta Correctional Centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/07\/28\/man-arraigned-over-attempt-to-kill-70-year-old-woman-escaping-from-custody\/\">pending<\/a> the insurance of legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution.
