A toxicologist with the Police Force Criminal Investigation Department, Benedict Agbo, told a coroner court that he did not get any request to test a blackish substance found in the intestine of late 12-year-old pupil of Dowen College, Sylvester Oromoni.<\/p>\n

A pathologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Sunday Soyemi, found the blackish substance in the second autopsy.<\/p>\n

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the deceased\u2019s cousin, Perry Oromoni, has taken to social media to alleged that some senior pupils of the college\u00a0beat him up in his hostel room for refusing to join a cult<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But the school denied the claim, stating that the boy complained of pain in his legs and hip following an injury he sustained while playing football.<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Lagos State Government\u00a0shut down the school<\/a>\u00a0indefinitely to ensure thorough investigation.<\/p>\n

Counsel for the deceased\u2019s family, Femi Falana, on Tuesday, asked Agbo if any blackish substance was sent to him for examination.<\/p>\n

Agbo said, \u201cNo, I didn\u2019t get any request.\u201d<\/p>\n

The doctor said he was contacted by the Police Area Commander in Warri, Delta State, that an autopsy was going to be done on the deceased.<\/p>\n

He added that after the autopsy was carried out, he discussed it with a pathologist<\/a> in the state, Clement Vhriterhire, and received samples for chemical analysis.<\/p>\n

He said the samples sent to him were tagged: A (containing cake dark brown labelled heart blood); B (containing a greyish liquid substance labelled stomach content); C (a sample note containing greyish brown mass of flesh labelled liver), and a sample bottle containing light reddish coloured liquid labelled fluid from the eye.<\/p>\n

Agbo noted that he conducted physical examination up to the microscopic level.<\/p>\n

\u201cWere you the one that suggested to the pathologist in Warri what to send?\u201d Falana asked.<\/p>\n

The toxicologist replied in the affirmative.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs it normal to use clotted blood for toxicology tests?\u201d the counsel asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, if that is what is found,\u201d Agbo replied.<\/p>\n

He added that the police laboratory at Alagbon was functional for toxicology, adding that it was inaugurated in 1997.<\/p>\n

When he was asked about the condition of the equipment between November 2021 and now, he said, \u201cI will have to go back to take stock.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Agbo, the functionality of a toxicology laboratory does not depend on the equipment, but on expertise.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you have equipment for testing poisons?\u201d Falana asked.<\/p>\n

Agbo replied in the affirmative.<\/p>\n

The doctor said he used solvent and solid extraction procedures to test the samples.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou will agree with me therefore that if the biochemical assay has not been carried out, you cannot conclusively say that your report is final?\u201d Falana asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I can\u2019t say that,\u201d Agbo replied.<\/p>\n

According to the witness, a biochemical assay is to know if the liver, heart and other vital organs are functioning well before the cessation of life.<\/p>\n

The coroner fixed further hearings for April 11 and 12.<\/p>\n

The news of Sylvester\u2019s death went viral following a social media post by his cousin, Perry Oromoni, who alleged that some senior pupils of the college beat him up in his hostel because he refused to join a cult.<\/p>\n

But the school denied the claim, stating that the boy complained of leg pain following an injury he sustained while playing football.<\/p>\n
