{"id":176586,"date":"2022-04-12T20:32:28","date_gmt":"2022-04-12T19:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=176586"},"modified":"2022-04-12T20:32:28","modified_gmt":"2022-04-12T19:32:28","slug":"northern-elders-ask-buhari-to-resign-give-reasons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/12\/northern-elders-ask-buhari-to-resign-give-reasons\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern elders ask Buhari to resign, give reasons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Elders Forum, NEF, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign immediately on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Buhari, according to the NEF, has failed to solve the country&#8217;s challenges of killings, kidnappings, and overall insecurity.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, NEF&#8217;s Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, made the call.<\/p>\n<p>According to Baba-Ahmed, the Nigerian constitution permits the president to resign if he is unable to resolve the country&#8217;s problems.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThe administration of President Muhammadu Buhari does not appear to have answers to the challenges of security to which we are exposed. We cannot continue to live and die under the dictates of killers, kidnappers, rapists and sundry criminal groups that have deprived us of our rights to live in peace and security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur constitution has provisions for leaders to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/01\/17\/2023-theres-no-reason-for-apc-to-remain-in-power-pdp\/\">voluntarily step down<\/a> if they are challenged by personal reasons or they prove incapable of leading.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is now time for President Buhari to seriously consider that option, since his leadership has proved spectacularly incapable of providing security over Nigerians. Our Forum is aware of the weight of this advice, and it is also aware that we cannot continue to live under these conditions until 2023 when President Buhari\u2019s term ends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKillers and other criminals appear to have sensed a paralyzing vacuum at the highest levels of leadership, and they grow more confident and acquire more competence in subverting the State and our security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigerians have shed enough tears and blood without appropriate response from those with responsibilities to protect us.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Elders Forum, NEF, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign immediately on Tuesday.
